I know the sgroppino contained lemon sorbet, vodka, and prosecco, but did someone get the correct proportions?

I want to fix them for Christmas dinner as a "palate cleanser " ;)

This was the drink we had at the "Flayertalk Group" dinner at Osteria Bea Vita

I didn't get the recipe, but I'm sure we'll all enjoy finding the right proportions by trial-and-error! :D

Please start a thread here in the CommunityBuzz! forum concerning the proposed Tel Aviv meet, if that is indeed what is planned.

I am unsure as to whether or not I would be able to attend, but I do have some questions:

• When will it take place?
• Will there be any side trips to Jerusalem and/or other parts of Israel?
• Will there be any side trips to any neighboring countries?

I would launch the thread, but the first several mileposts will be needed for critical information...

I think it is WAY too early to start such a thread. In my opinion the best time to visit Israel is in Oct 1 -- Nov 15 after the incredible heat of the summer but before the rain starts. (There is an equivalent period in Spring, but it is often very expensive here because of Easter/Passover visitors.)

But to answer your questions:

1. I think it would be foolish to come to Israel and not go to Jerusalem and the Sea of Galilee -- at a very minimum. Keep in mind, however, that this is a very small country. You can get into a car in Tel Aviv and be in Jerusalem in an hour; the Sea of Galilee would take two hours. There is very good public transportation and tours are easily arranged. As the time grows closer, we can decide whether to arrange for day tours in advance or to set them up when people are here.

2. There are no neighboring countries you can visit other than Egypt and Jordan. Egypt (other than flying) means the Sinai Desert only. Jordan is a pain to get to except, again, by air. If anyone wants to go to one of these countries I will do my best to help them but it will not be part of the organized Meet.

....but it might require a special sorbet available only from one secret negozio in Venezia, and a special kind of vodka, and a particular brand of prosecco.... all necessitating another trip to Venezia! Gee, wouldn't that be a shame! :p

I don't eat sweets, nor do I drink fru fru drinks, but that sgroppino was good.

Early to mid November for Tel Aviv is good for us. Despite the comments that may be made by his "friends" Cholula and Carnasie, the Dovster is an excellent guide----------well at least in Venice.

I want to take this opportunity to publicly thank Canarsie for the restraint he showed in this thread by not saying that I had named it after myself.

It must have killed him not to say that "Dovster is a real turkey -- and we all know that turkey is the November meat."

Tel Aviv for next October/November sounds great and you can count at least me and Mrs. Cholula as possible definite maybes. She'll be fully retired by then and I won't be too far behind. And I'll be in a DL SkyMiles burning mood.
And with Israel being located on the Mediterranean, I'll bet we can count on another "squiggly, slimy" seafood dinner for our meet! :p
I'll ask O2K to look into a location asap.....
