Dovster, if that were even a vague possibility, you can rest assured that Cholula would attend to upgrading him. :p |

I wonder if the AZ computer people are already on strike. (By the way, I don't mind Cholula upgrading Canarsie. After all, he is giving me a Mac laptop, right?) |

String concerts at San Vidal
I enjoyed one of the abovementioned string concerts by Interpreti Veneziani at the Church of San Vidal in September 2002. The performers were outstanding and the church acoustics added dimension to the music. I would certainly try to fit this in the busy schedule, if possible!
As for location, San Vidal is just a short distance from the Accademia, but on the other side of the Accademia bridge (i.e., in the direction of San Marco). There are also other concerts of classical music in Venice that you'll find hawked to tourists. I tend to buy tix to things like this (when I'm travelling, that is) on short notice -- no more than a day or so in advance, or sometimes on the same day. Vivaldi is huge in Venice, not only because he was a great composer, but also because he was.... Venetian. ;) |

Nov 19: In the afternoon, Dovster takes dedhans, MsEverywhere, and KLC to a local pastry shop for some coffee and cake. Obscure2K takes Cholula and Mrs. Cholula to the Peggy Guggenheim Museum of Modern Art. In the evening, we all meet at a bar in St. Mark's Square. Everybody except Cholula tastes Veneto region wines. Cholula goes into St. Mark's Cathedral and admires the Renaissance frescoes. (Cholula's Amex remains with Mrs. C at the bar, who pays for all the drinks. We then direct her to Venice's most expensive glass shop, which is adjacent to the bar.) Later, we head to the Casino while Cholula attends a violin concerto. Nov. 20: Dovster meets Bianca at the train station, thus putting an end to his attempts to seduce all the other women at the Meet. The Opera buffs go to La Traviata, where they try to explain to Cholula that laughing during the suicide scene is not considered de rigeur. Dovster and Bianca try walking around the city, a difficult task as he insists on turning right at every corner while she invariably heads to the left. In the evening, we have the Main Meet, where Cholula distributes the hot sauce goodies he has brought and Dovster hands out the Israeli stuff. There is a possibility that Traveller will present somebody with The Mouse. Nov. 21: This being Sunday, Cholula spends most of the morning attending Mass at various churches. The rest of us recover from The Meet before heading out late breakfast of prosciutto and panini. In the afternoon, Bianca guides Cholula and Mrs. C around the Doge's Palace, and points out the works of the Venetian Renaissance masters. In the evening, we all meet for drinks -- except for Cholula, who will be a bit hung over from all the sacramental wine he had that morning. Nov. 22: The rest of you head to Murano, where you are able to pick up glassware identical to that which Mrs. C bought in St Marks, but at a fraction of the price. Dovster and Bianca take the train back to Milano. Nov. 23: We meet in Verona. O2K's Hotel Marco guides you to such places as the Arena and Juliet's balcony. Dovster guides Mrs. Cholula to Via Mazzini and shows her where the city's most expensive clothes, jewelry, and leather goods shops are. Most then head back to Venice. Dovster heads back to Milan. Cholula heads towards bankruptcy. I want her to know where I am when I'm not where I'm supposed to be. |

Okay, so I'm in for sure - got my FC award ticket held and all, and blocked the time off my schedule. As fun as "Murano glass" and opera sound, I think we'll pass on those in favor of clubbing and/or drinking. Platbrowngal will hopefully get things worked out next week, otherwise I'll just have to replace her. It's not hard to find a girl who wants to go to Italy, after all (the hard part is convincing them I really mean Italy and not Italy, Texas :(). But I won't confirm a platbrowngal (or if it absolutely came to it, platbrowndude) until I know for sure.
If anyone needs them, I freed up two FC seats CDG-Washington Dulles on both the 23rd and 24th (I tend to hoard seats in reservations...). 18NOV DL464(R) DFW-ATL 7:30a-10:30a 18NOV DL1618(R) ATL-IAD 11:15a-12:58p 18NOV AF 39(A) IAD-CDG 5:15p-6:30a 19NOV AF1426(X) CDG-VCE 9:55a-11:40a --- 23NOV AF2427(X) VCE-CDG 7:15a-9:05a 23NOV AF36(A) CDG-IAH 10:20a-2:10p 23NOV WN676 IAH-DAL 4:45p-5:40p |

If Platbrowngal A can not clear up her schedule, I think you would find remarkable success in posting on CommunityBuzz that you have a free air ticket and hotel room available in Venice. Just reference your above letter and ask any woman interested in joining you to send you an e-mail -- with a picture attached. Of course, the opera buffs among them may not be interested but I wouldn't be too surprised if you get a host of other applicants! |

So alas, things are very tight at the moment & much as I'd love to attend, I can't justify spending $$ on FT Dos right now. Rest assured that if I DO win the lotto or manage to sign up a # of new clients, I'm back in! Cheers. Sharon

My company is in the process of interviewing/engaging a firm to help with a rebranding effort to include renaming, develpoment of new corporate identity, logo, letterhead etc as well as marketing materials, and possible marketing/PR. We've spoken with 2 firms so far and have quotes in the $50 - $90K range (not including monthly retainers for the marketing/PR piece). I'm in Southern California and think that if we are going to spend that kind of money I'd see if anyone here knew of a firm that could help us, let me know Vaze

My children, let us pray. (If you are an atheist, you are allowed to hope instead.) |

If seats open up for return on the 22nd it will be optimal for us to return then, otherwise we well either hop over to some other italian city the night of the 22nd (i.e. verona), stay somewhere else in venice, or extend our stay at the ai mori if space is available. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone, and platbrowngal A is looking forward to her first trip out of the country . |

Even though you made your reservation as you did, I suggest that you write to Marco and let him know you are coming as part of our group. Not only can you never know what that might give you, it will also help him in his planning for us. |
Venice photos -- the (in)famous flooding
Just thought I'd include a few Venice photos from my trip two years ago (September 2002).... for those who are curious about what it's like when it floods:
Photos of Venice, late September 2002 |
Kathy,
Thanks for the pictures, they brought back memories. I was there that year too and have a shot of the UIG in a very wet Piazza San Marco. :) I sure hope you are not hydrophobic enough to let the memory of the flood keep you from switching from the "Possible" to the "Definite" list. Canarsie, as you might know, had been afraid to come for that very reason. However, now that is all behind him. He knows that as a moderator he can walk on water. |
