I played with Easyjet and Virgin and the roundtrip fare from AMS or BRU is around $150... fares to AMS and BRU from SFO are still in the $700 range... I still think that fares will go down a little...

Thumbs up Confirmed

Confirmed now also, AA ORD-LHR return, and meeting AusTxHiker in LHR on 10/28 for our BA LHR-BCN flight, so if anyone else is arriving on Thursday, let us know!

Also, I'm in for Friday dinner, but not Saturday, as availability has us both returning Saturday evening to LHR -- sorry!

Yeesh Alan, I am drooling over that menu!!!!

Still watching fares. Most likely ORD-BRU, or possibly LHR or AMS (UA, of course) and then hopping into BCN (with a couple days in MAD & Toledo either before or after)

Fares will go down!

I am SURE fares will go down after September 1st/Labor day!

My colleague has her husband visiting us in ZRH(the week before BCN) and I told her the hardest thing to do is to wait for 9/1 and the fares to drop. At any rate, they won't be higher! And, who knows, maybe a great special will show up in the meantime.

I am watching fares, too, as I want work to route me BACK through BCN with a layover. So I will need a nice low fare as an incentive.

Alan, I am hoping that when I translate the menu I might see "prostitute salad" again? That was yummy!

Love ya!

Mean it!

OK kids, I'm back in Spain for a few days and have some exciting news! I have photos from the kitchen of Friday's dinner venue. Prepare to be astounded. I promise I will update the web this weekend.

Also a question: those of you who will do the tour on Saturday: I'm footing the bill for the guide but need to know if you are OK walking (nothing too terrible) and taking the metro or would we rather have a bus. If it's the bus it will run around 12EUR/person. I need a show of hands in the next week or so.

Either walking/metro or a bus is fine with me! Do whatever is easier for you......

Walking might be good if we do stop often for tapas and sangria...

Hey - the host should not pay! You're generous enough by organizing this fun fest.

I'm happy to walk or ride - I'll go with group choice.

a vote for walking

I personally think that walking/using public transport in a foreign city helps you get a better feel for that city.
It also would help if we did stop often for tapas and sangria.

But as stated above, I will go with the majority. And I am certainly willing to contribute to the pay-the-guide fund.

I'm perfectly happy to ankle express and/or transit as needed, taking in the architecture, classicly dressed folk and the...well..."air" that is unique about BCN, truly one of Europe's most beautiful cities. I just want to take it all in and keep enough mental pictures to satiate me until I can go back again...and again. Alan, whatever is easiest for you is great with me...you've already done a ton.

That said, start the countdown clock...83 days. Can't wait.

Sangria?

I thought I'd opt for walking since it sounds healthier. Sounds like we'll be stumbling through Barcelona.

Walking or Metro would be fine to me - and some stops are welcome .

But I will go with the majority
