Golf Do?
I see we have a bunch of golfers here on Flyer Talk. Has anyone ever put together an outing? Flamboyant 1 had an earlier thread. Is anyone interested?
Could be a blast? Jon |
I'm conjuring up pictures from Caddyshack with a bunch of FTers taking over the golf course.... ;) It could definitely be fun. Consider me (and the sticks) as interested.
|
I had a very successful nine holes last weekend - not once did I have to re-tee off from the women's tee with my pants around my ankles. :)
Very interested! |
I can putt into a whiskey glass in my living room - does that count? :D
I'd be interested because cawhite's description above came to my mind as well! I can't play so I'd have to be a caddie or gopher. |

^ I am certainly interested in Golf. Now if I can only feasibility attend. :( We shall see! |
Let's find a place and date. Suggestions anyone?
BTW Randy featured this in his weekly news letter. ^ |
And quite timely...don't forget to visit the S.P.A.M. forum & register for your free sleeve of golf balls!

It probably won't help my game, but maybe it will help yours:

BDLord, if you're gonna be in Louisville, maybe you & Spiff should meet (over a beer, natch) to discuss venue & date. Given that it's FT & that we're all willing to fly somewhere & it's golftime year-round in certain locales, just tell us where & when. jerry.a.laska might even appreciate a break in the fall or winter when it gets a bit nippy where he lives ;)
I see I need to add photographer along to my caddie & gopher duties, so that I can catch that 'rodeo ride' thing w/ the hockey stick. And cawhile, I'm practicing my gopher dance as I post :D |

"he's come outta nowhere, he's got about 350 yards left, he's gonna hit about a five-iron, don't you think?" As for me: "So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-galunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice." |

I did get a bowl of soup with the hat.
|
Very Interested
Dan |
And thanks to dan for bringing the thread back OT! The rest of you can quote Caddyshack when you're trying to hit the itty-bitty round thing w/ a long stick :D

OT: High country golf? Great for egos.
Now a Caddyshackism: It's easy to grin when your ship comes in and you have the stock market beat. But a man that's worthwhile is a man that can smile when his shorts are too tight in the seat. |

If we find some useful fares, Ireland in September can be nice. Otherwise, as sharon pointed out someplace warm would also be nice.
|
PHX is warm in Sept :D

Great Golf. . .
some of the country's best golf can be found here in North Carolina. . .in case anybody is interested (Pinehurst has several lovely courses). I am definitely interested in this. I miss my wine and women league of golfing :)
Inexpensive fares coming to RDU courtesy of Independence Air starting on 07/06. |
or South Carolina

Also w/SC is Hilton Head area |
I'm in depending upon the dates you suggest!
|
What about Oct or Nov?
Isn't September basically tied up w/ Dos & Labor Day weekend? What about Oct or Nov? Mainland is probably cheaper to get to than Ireland or Hawaii, although I think the words cheap & golf don't go hand-in-hand. Kind of like skiing in that respect ;)

Yes, but not everyone is going to be at every DO (or wanting to attend every DO), so don't we have a bit of flexibility with that? (Just asking since I'm still a FT novice...please don't anyone interpret that question as an invite for a flame war) JMO, but I'm already golfing Hawaii later this year with friends so I'd like to see something not already on my books for this year. I"d love to do the Carolinas if it's early enough in the autumn as it's absolutely gorgeous out there. Someone else (ahem...you'd better post when you get home!) suggested MCO. |
I don't even know of any other dos (so perhaps I'm just not paying attention ;)). As far as October and November - that's hurricane season here in the Carolinas folks :) Personally, I think that we may get more people if we keep it simple i.e., not having to travel across the world to play some golf.
Late August/early Sept is also good weather/golfing in Phx too (plug for jan_az) :) |

There's lots of courses in the Louisville area, too.
Fuzzy Zoeller has a course that is about 20 min from SDF. |

And if you do PHX - you can have golf for those who golf- and spa's for those who dont :D |
Jan's got it right!
Golf & spa - how cool is that?
Ok, btwn labor day, oktoberfest, denver brew fest, etc, some of the folk posting on this thread that they'll do a golfdo won't be available if it's in sept. i'm still voting for oct or nov, but if it happens when i'm not available, then i designate cawhite to take my place doing the gopher dance :D although she needs to start practicing now cuz i'm good at it :p btw - i'm a bit surprised that we actually haven't heard from more folk who golf (no disrespect intended to those who have posted). and spiff, while i'm not familiar w/ courses, anything that has fuzzy in its name sounds fun to me! :) |
