Could we make a decision here soon so that plans could be made soon? If there are enough of us, we could probably negotiate with a hotel for a good rate/package.

Ok, btwn labor day, oktoberfest, denver brew fest, etc, some of the folk posting on this thread that they'll do a golfdo won't be available if it's in sept. i'm still voting for oct or nov, but if it happens when i'm not available, then i designate cawhite to take my place doing the gopher dance :D although she needs to start practicing now cuz i'm good at it :p

btw - i'm a bit surprised that we actually haven't heard from more folk who golf (no disrespect intended to those who have posted).

and spiff, while i'm not familiar w/ courses, anything that has fuzzy in its name sounds fun to me! :)

Skiadcock...one of the benefits of learning how to golf (and yes, I really do despite years of swearing I never would) was never having to do the gopher dance in public again! ;)

golf in Orlando

As commanded, I am suggesting the Golf do in Orlando in late Sept. early Oct. The advantages are :plenty of courses with all types of challenges (including gators), cheap airfares to MCO; ton of accomodations fitting just about everyone's memberships; very convenient for me :) ; and stuff for the non-golfers and offspring to do. Rates are low and the weather is still good that time of year with the exception of the unwelcome hurricane. Let me know what everyone thinks. Just a suggestion.

It's about time you showed up....if I didn't know better I'd think you've been hiding in Cgo for a few days or something ;)

But what in the world ( :p ) could there possibly be for the non-golfers and kids to do around there?

The Ritz in Orlando. This is a great course but a bit expensive.

We could still use it as a central location -- it's not as if it's not close to Int'l Drive with 200 other hotels with all price ranges. Besides, it looks like the "golf & room" package starts at $230/night which isn't bad (especially since I paid a $225 green fee for the Ocean Course a couple years ago)

liquid Jun 8, 2004 1:26 pm

Chalk me up for a golf outing. If high score wins I have a chance. I'll be in Myrtle next weekend chasing the ball around.

Tons of courses in Orlando and area. If the destination is ok, I can find all types and prices on courses. Some that aren't well know to out of towners are Black Bear, Timiquan, Disney (3), and others. Let me know what everyone thinks. Sept/Oct is off season.

Well, after Sunday night you know that I really liked Eagle Pines & Osprey Ridge at Disney! Oak Trail is also a nice 9-hole to walk, especially for those new to golf or not wanting to play a full 18 (or pay the green fees for a full 18 at WDW)

indo79 Jun 8, 2004 3:47 pm

I doubt I should join the GolfDo with my score this weekend. 111  but that was with 2 consecutive 10s in a row :td:

How much are WDW green fees?

Anyway, put me down as an interested party.

They have specials in off season. IIRC in Oct, they have specials of about $25-$30.

Current rates (which I believe got through Sept 30) range from $99 (Palm/Mag/LBV) to $109 (Osprey Ridge) & $119 (Eagle Pines). Green fees after 3:00 drop to about $30-35. Oak Trail is $38/15. Those fees are for non-WDW resort guests.

I usually play in Nov & Jan at WDW...and those rates (aside from Oak Trail) aren't reflective of when I've played there.

LOL!!! I thought my golfing buddies and I only did that!!!

However, we don't pull out pants down; just got to pull your "equipment" out!

:D :D :D

I'm in for a golfing tourney!

Texas Rules-Have to prove you are a man!! :)

indo79-It's a shame you missed those two putts for a 9 :)

BDLORD Jun 12, 2004 12:07 pm

Central Location..

So I was thinking.....ORD is a hub and pretty central. October may be OK for people? We could find a hotel that may give us a group rate. MCO is nice but not central.
I am open for any place.
OK now let us discuss.
Jon
BTW I am a high handicap golfer also.
This should be open to all FT's of any skill level, even non golfers.

ldsant Jun 12, 2004 7:38 pm

Personally, ORD as a golf destination doesn't really do it for me. Sorry. . .

I'm still voting for either North or South Carolina. Beautiful courses, good weather, and loads of other things for non-golfers to do (not to mention great food and beer ;) )

BDLORD Jun 13, 2004 8:32 am

OK, so lets vote on the Carolinas. Anyone object? How do we put together a poll?

ldsant Jun 13, 2004 9:00 am

Stake in the ground. . .

BDLORD, it's like hearding cats ;)

To get this going:

TIME: October 22-24,2004
PLACE: Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (USAir flies non-stop from several locations - airport code is MYR)

If you're in, post here as either YES, MAYBE, or NO Thanks, I'm going to MCO :)

I'm iffy on the dates, but the location works for me (although to be honest, anywhere but ORD sounds good to me)!

tinnub Jun 13, 2004 9:28 am

I'm in for MCO. difficult to get to MYR.

BDLORD Jun 13, 2004 5:45 pm

I am in San Juan, PR the 22-24 Oct.

SkiAdcock Jun 13, 2004 7:27 pm

I'm open but would prefer Orlando - west coast to Mouseworld-land better fares than to Carolinas. I'm just coming along to be photographer, gopher dancer, drink hander-outer, and to watch Spiff's rodeo ride or whatever that thing was called & see Jerry A.Laska do a gopher dance cuz he's out of cold weather :)

Since the OP can't make the suggested weekend above, not fair to do it when he's not available.

Here's what we did for SkiDo - picked a couple of weekends & couple of venues & had folk vote - majority won (realizing that not everyone could make whatever was chosen). Perhaps it might be good to do a Orlando/Carolina vote, & then pick a couple of sep weekends/vote (all in same post). Provide a deadline to vote by - perhaps 10 days from now or end of month?

Then BDLord can pick town & weekend based on votes, and then start a 'new' thread announcing that as the GolfDo location/date (housing to be determined later). That's what we did for SkiDo & it worked pretty well. Cheers.

ljp99 Jun 13, 2004 8:29 pm

Im in for either MCO or MYR but not for weekends at the end of September (both Jewish holidays fall on those weekends - which may or may not affect other interested parties.)

wharvey Jun 14, 2004 6:19 am

Why not do two events? One in Carolina as suggested by ldsant and one in MCO?

You will never find a time that works for everyone...

Should we call your Solomon from now on? ;) GREAT idea.

I'm interested in either Orlando or Myrtle Beach. Hey, maybe I can even catch Hooters Air to the latter!

Orlando over South Carolina

Although I think the best area for golf in the fall (both cost and weather) is California, I'll vote for Orlando over South Carolina. Flights into SC are very limited and the price somewhat high vs. MCO deals. I'm also not interested in golfing anywhere with exorbitant greens fees, with so many courses we should be able to find a good deal at a good course.

Alysia Jun 15, 2004 12:53 pm

I'm not a golfer but if Orlando is the site chosen, I'd probably come to hang out with you all.

cawhite Jun 15, 2004 1:22 pm

As before, I"ll go with either location. I'm just iffy on the dates.

mspguy Jun 15, 2004 7:12 pm

I'm interested!
Probably vote for MCO although FLL or MIA would be good for cheapish flights, hotels (Hilton family prop's for points of course!) and green fees and good golf weather....

BDLORD Jun 16, 2004 7:44 am

OK so MCO looks like the location

Lets make a date now. Oct. 8,9 and 10th work for me.
Someone earlier said group hotel rate.
I for one want to avoid Disney properties but on that note. I have a connection at the Hard Rock Hotel Universal.
Next!!!!

liquid Jun 16, 2004 7:55 am

As long as we are voting, I'll go with the Carolinas. It is however entirely dependent on the dates.

That would be Columbus Day weekend. It would work for me.

Being a holiday weekend, and also the weekend of the WDW 10k Classic on the 10th & the Central Florida Race for the Cure 5k is on the 9th (at MGM Studios), it will be a busy weekend in MCO.

tinnub Jun 16, 2004 8:24 am

The next weekend works best for me. Let me know if I can hellp with any arrangements.
