LaborDoo MSY Sept. 3-6, 2004 - The Big Easy
Come and take it easy in N'Awlins fah Laybah Day! Join some FT'ers in the Crescent City for great blues, jazz, art, the river and all that is the grace and charm that is....wait a minute! This ain't the Travel Channel!
Dee-licious food & drink (no dancing in the fountain at Pat O'Brien's, they'll kick ya out right quick for that...I know), local events, hot sticky days (partially best spent poolside sweating out the previous evening's libations) & crazy nights. Grab some beads and start those diets now, because we're going to hit some of the best Cajun and local food specialty places in town (in between cocktails).
Fresh oysters, jambalaya, crawfish or shrimp etouffe, beignets, red beans & rice, collard greens, grits, muffalettas, po' boys, blackend shrimp, fish & gator (no kidding, it's good!)...if you like food with a little chutzpah, this is the place, Labor Day's the weekend. We'll try and hit Mothers', Irene's, the Crescent City Brewhouse and Cafe Du Monde as well as the Riverwalk and several other dining establishments; also Decatur Street and the Quarter as well as a trip or two into Harrah's for a little gambling, those who are so inclined.
Don't spent your weekend at home doing honey-do's, hit Labor Doo & take it easy! (Anyone been noticing all those super cheap last minute Labor Day Weekend fares?...hint hint)
Quick din-din update: We have a table for 8 reserved at Irene's at St. Philip & Chartres at 8:00 PM, Saturday September 4th. As I have 8 confirmees now, if anyone else is coming, please let me know!
Restaurants considered among the many:
Irene's
Mother's
Crescent City Brewhouse
Commander's Palace
Of course, Beignets at Cafe Du Monde for the truly sadistic
Confirmees:
fredmartens
missydarlin

Am I missing anyone?

Sheraton
The Sheraton can be gotten for $99 with this link:

book by June 23rd
While not the most glamorous of hotels, it is centrally located on Canal St, and has a pool

Now, where can I find some beads cheap?
LaborDo MSY 2004 lives. It is alive.
Consider this now a "Gastro Warmup" to AlanW's BCN DO Halloween 2004.
(you are spending Halloween weekend in Barcelona, aren't you?)
AA1664 SEA-DFW 9/3/2004 6:00-11:52
AA474 DFW-MSY 9/3/2004 13:01-14:29
3 days of ___________________________ fill in the blank(s)
AA1837 MSY-DFW 9/6/2004 15:12-16:46
AA2211 DFW-SEA 9/6/2004 18:20-20:28
I am booked at the Wyndham at Canal Place Friday 9/3 thru Monday 9/6. $96 a night on the Wyndham webrates site, prepaid. There is also a rooftop pool and their restaurant, River127, overlooks the Mississippi River from (you guessed it) 127 feet up. There's another casual restaurant as well as "The Green Bar" onsite. King bed rooms are 450 square feet; at 100 Rue Iberville.
As others have noted, the Sheraton, Marriott and several other hotels are available on either Canal St. or by the convention center at around $100 a night. I think the DT was at about $116 the last time I checked.
Can you say
party!!!

Be warned that Labour day weekend is also when Southern Decadance takes over New Orleans. It is a very, very large gay party - one of 4 or 5 big circuit parties in North America.
Hotels will fill up fast, the French Quarter and Bourbon St. will be very gay.
Of course some of us on FT might like that

Now it's just a matter of convincing others that they would be silly not to join us!

Where are all those SEA chat-terers who precipitated the idea for this?
