Naha (500 N. Clark) has a highly recommended burger for $10 as well as a skirt steak that caught my eye for $16

from the Naha website http://www.naha-chicago.com/ : Angus Beef Burger with Your Choice of Cheese, Caramelized Onions and Crisp Potato Fries $10

Grilled Skirt Steak Brushed with Garlic, Sea Salt and Herbs, Greek Salad and Crisp Potato Fries $16

OR

I got friends in low places.................

Goto Mr. Beef (700ish N. Orleans) for an Italian Beef Sandwich.

OR

somebody else suggestions?

Okay, let's call it Naha for this one! I'm always up for a new (to me) Cgo dining location & this is a little closer in walking distance to the Palmer House than Mr Beef. Does that work for everyone?

Sounds good to me. Can one of our Chicago FTers that plans to attend set us up with a table reservation under the name "Flyertalker"? I'm flexible on the time.

No problem -- I'll set up the reservation as soon as we have a time and an estimate on the # (which can be finalized a few days beforehand). I'm flexible with the time...waiting to hear if anyone needs earlier or later?

Just went today:

Was on my way downtown to the MCA ( http://www.mcachicago.org/ )to see the Lee Bontecou exhibit which has been extended through May 31.

IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN HER WORK, GO!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was flying along on my cycle when I realized I had passed up the cheaper spots on the outskirts and found myself in the expensive river north area. I then remembered hearing about a $10 angus burger at Naha.

Showed up at 11:30am, DEAD! Absolutely DEAD, by the time I left slightly after 12, there were 6 people total, 4 tables taken, that is it. Im guessing it had to be due to the Friday before a holiday weekend.

Started with a potato, corn and saffron soup w/some sauted leeks. Good soup but the potato flavor should have been more pronounced IMO.

Then came the angus burger, slightly done past my requested medium rare. I chose the blue cheese as my cheese of choice. The bun is a good egg bun that has been grilled to get the flat sides crisp, not too dense. There is a gourmet salad mix and sliced plum tomatoes on as well. The burger has seasonings but they add not detract from the burger.

Fries I thought were only ok at first, but the way I started to polish them off, they were much better than ok.

Bottom line, the incredible quality blue cheese and the lovingly caramelized onions (think French onion tart caramelized) made the burger. If it were not for these two catalysts of flavor, the burger would have only been good.

For $10 a damn good burger, I would have it again.

Willie -- that sounds GREAT!!!! And you just had to give that yummy description right before I have to jump in the car for a LONG drive (only 3-4 hours if I'm lucky!) across the Borman and then down I-65. (Luckily I'll have a Mug n Bun tenderloin waiting for me on the other end!)

Do you want to plan on noon for lunch on the 7th, or does 12:30 work better for everyone?

Those I listed as "Maybes" are based on locals who posted in this thread or those who said they'd be in town. If you'll post here or PM me, then I'll update the list. Anyone who's around is welcome to join us, and for those who haven't yet had the opportunity to follow any of Sweet Willie's dining rec's, I guarantee it will be good food (and he's pretty good company too)!

I'm going back to SF tonight for my son's high school graduation and will return to Chicago Sunday. If I can get away Monday lunch, I'll be there.

Best wishes!

I was just looking at the CTA map and from the Loop area it appears that Bus 156 northbound on La Salle would be a good choice to get near the restaurant, correct?

I'm not sure about the bus schedule, but you could pick up the Red Line (subway) and take it (north) to the Grand stop which is around 500 N. Then walk west on Grand to Clark (from State street is 2 blocks). Subways & els run about every 10 minutes that time of day and fare is $1.75 (same as bus) If you need a timetable PM me and I'll send you the link to CTA. Are you staying at the Palmer House? If so, you can get on the RedLine right there at Monroe/State.

Can't go wrong taking Red Line or CTA #156...you might be better off taking 22 at Clark

Clark is 2 blocks east of Lasalle and 2 blocks west of State/Grand (Red Line Stop) so take #22

Any word yet on moving you from the DM list to the Confirmed list? I can't promise any "crystal ball" entertainment on Monday like I provided in DTW, but we'll still give you some great company!
