Dovster was a complex, intelligent man who contibuted greatly to Flyertalk. He could certainly be robust and opinionated, but above all else my abiding impression will be of a kind man who merely wanted to live peacefully on his kibbutz.
He bridged international relations and formed genuine, lasting friendships across very unlikely political and spiritual divides through Flyertalk. He also relied heavily on us to prompt and refresh his own memory. I was delighted to be able to find a way for him to continue to do that in his final months, and grateful for his practicality and openness.
There are many here who knew Dov much better than I did, and my interaction with him was but fleeting towards the end of his life. I really wish it could have been longer - we have lost a fascinating man.

I'm an very saddened to hear of his passing. While we never met in person we had many vibrant conversations both on the public forums and in PMs. I hope his family gets to read this thread when they are ready and know that his memory will be a blessing to many many people. May he rest in peace and may his family find comfort in all these memories and good thoughts. Those of you who know his family, please do pass along this wonderful thread.

I never met him and am sad I never will. He embodies the best of FT - someone who would argue at the drop of a hat but was incredibly generous and kind. He was truly larger than life and will be sorely missed.

My wife and I were talking this morning about Israel and Iran and she asked "How's your Israeli friend doing?" (She and I spent a day with him at his home in the Galilee 10 years ago.) I haven't been to FT much recently and I told her I would take a look and see if he had been posting. So I searched for his posts and saw the "In Memoriam" tag. Sad but not surprised; I've lost a number of contemporaries in the last 5 years. I think he would have been 80.
Dov and I didn't agree on much but over the years we developed a grudging liking and respect for each other. I met him numerous times and broke bread with him in three countries. Rest in peace, my friend.

Sad to hear this. He was funny (his "I was stabbed by a Palestinian!" thread, for example) and had an anachronistic way of interpreting things. But you knew that before engaging with him here. Though I don't really participate here on FT anymore, he was someone I think about a lot whenever there's stuff going on in the Middle East. He will be missed.

This news is just trickling over to OMNI/PR where dov was a regular for many, many years.
Sorry to hear of his passing.
Godspeed, Dovster

I suspect Dovster (OBM) would have been delighted to hear about yesterdays meeting and peace talks between the Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors to the USA. Is BEYFlyer still here, whom I believe Dovster was corresponding with during the 2006 war?

Never met him but I will miss his posts. I am probably one of a handful that was more hawkish than him in Omni on Israel and the Middle East.

Just found my way here via a Blog post. Don't frequent FT much anymore, but Dov was certainly core to the DL forum in the early days. It's clear he continued to touch many throughout the years. RIP.
