Super easy and faster by walking than ride hailing. There is a bridge across the train tracks. Then walk south to the pedestrian cross walk. Cross the Coast Highway and walk north to Pizza Port. Google Maps estimates it as a 3 minute walk.

I feel a bit silly. I was looking at routes there from apparently the incorrect train station. Looks more likely now!

For those thinking about this, it's a pretty train ride, especially thru Del Mar with a great view of the ocean. You can walk over to Fletcher Cove from Pizza Port for its great ocean view. And should you want a sightseeing stop on the way south, you can get off at Old Town State Park and wander thru the buildings there.

If you want the alternative of the Coaster and Amtrak, you could jump off at the Solana Beach Station. Immediately across the Coast Highway is Pizza Port which has its own microbrewery.

Pizza Port has good pizza too actually. Certainly better than Pizza Hut or Domino's.

I'm in for this too. Not fully clear on details, could you add more info here or in the Wiki?

Zorak can certainly confirm. But I believe the plan would be for the people staying downtown to meet at Santa Fe station in the gaslamp area of San Diego at about 11:00. They everyone can take the Coaster (The COASTER commuter train provides breathtaking coastal scenery as it runs north and south through San Diego County, serving eight stations) which leaves at 1120 to Solana Beach, where we'll meet at Pizza Port for lunch and beers at around noon. The day pass for the COASTER costs $15. The $15 also includes any necessary connections on busses or trolleys, although I don't think that will be needed. I would assume after lunch and beer at PP, we'll visit other nearby breweries.

I hesitate to contradict info from a local, but if I'm reading things correctly Solana Beach is a 3-zone trip thus $6.50 one-way, $13 return, or $15 regional day pass (senior citizen pricing 50% off of all of those).

Per https://gonctd.com/fares/fares-passes/ the $15 regional day pass is also good on other products including bus/trolley (and also Amtrak between Oceanside and San Diego but the southbound Amtrak timings are unlikely to be useful to us)

If my saved emails can be trusted then I think I bought my ticket through the Pronto app last year, so suggest installing that and setting up an account in advance:

https://www.ridepronto.com/help/#pronto-app

IRC it's the usual thing where you can buy a ticket in advance and then tap to activate it before boarding?

Oh yeah, should be $15 for a day pass. My post has been corrected. I'll probably just drive and meet everyone at noon, as it is a 20 minute drive from my residence. I'll trust you guys to make sure not to let me get too drunk to drive home.

You're in good company; PizzaPort has won over 90 GABF awards, and was routinely recognized as one of the top mid-sized brewers in the US for last 10-15yrs.
And they've nurtured another wave of great brew restos here, including Bagby's, Port Brewing, and now Heritage (all North County SAN, 2 of them in OSide)

Thursday folks: I think we'll have more than 4 for the early evening tiki bar, which means pivoting to the 5:30 False Idol reservation instead.

Prob meet outside, IIRC it's kinda crowded inside and then you have to go through the "secret" inner entrance anyway.

But stay tuned to the thread in any case for any late-breaking changes.

Any guess on how many are coming to Pizza Port? I can come a few minutes before the train arrives and grab a table.

Should anyone want to move on to the breweries in downtown Encinitas, such as Modern Times, I can drive 3 of you there after our meal. There is a Coaster Station behind La Paloma Theatre, less than a block from Modern Times. If you want a desert, GP Diner has great gelato and is a 2 block walk from Modern Times.

I apparently hosed the wiki on my last update, and I'm in the middle of stuff so I can't repair it immediately (plus, no history anymore, #thanksIB)

CoffeeTraveler isn't 100% sure he can cancel his Mothership reservation, so Thurs. folks please keep an eye on the thread for more info, we may move the larger group tiki bar to the later time slot.

SanDiego1K going from memory I think we have 6 adults and one toddler coming on the train, plus whatever locals (you, ChrisFlyer66, Arsey00 + ???)

Mothership cancellation went through so we are now all aboard for 6 pax at False Idol at 5:30 PM on Thursday. Should be a great time. Wear a festive shirt :D
