Another bump....
^

I'm game for getting together sometime on December 31 (or the 30th or the 1st), but as I'm NOT staying at the Marriott Marquis, it may be difficult for me to do the Times Square thing. (No doubt entry to the club lounge there will be restricted on New Year's Eve!)

Lonely & Single at the Marriott Marquis! :)
Hello fellow FTers - due to circumstances I didn't anticipate, I'll be flying in from DFW to LGA for the 30 Dec - 02 Jan deal at the Marriott Marquis.

I'd love to know if anyone is planning to get together for any events duirng that time, especially new years eve.

Also, I happen to have a second ticket to the evening showing Dec 30 to see The Producers - 3rd row center orchestra. I'd be glad to share that ticket at cost with another FTer that might be interested in attending.

PM me ASAP before I have to reach beyond FT. If anyone reading this has any other advice on how I might be able to find someone to buy my 2nd ticket, let me know (I do make great company ).

DG

Are there any practical problems with how one eats NYE dinner if one is staying at the Marquis? How late in the evening will one be able to traverse local streets? Do I need a reservation to eat at the hotel restaurant? Will room service be open?

There is some useful info on this thread (in Travel&Dining: Featured Destinations > New York City):

Times Square on New Year's Eve

It doesn't answer the questions about the Marriott (maybe you could call the hotel for those), but does talk about the crowd control situation, etc.

I'm wondering if hotels will be requiring ID (and/or showing of room key) for entry on NYE. I wouldn't think they would let in just anybody.

Also, even if you are successful in finding a bathroom, you may have trouble getting back to wherever you were standing. According to themicah in the thread I posted above (Times Square on New Year's Eve), once a "pen" is full, you can leave, but you might not be allowed back in!

Went to a company function this week at the Marriott, and I'm about 95% certain that they had watered down the booze in the bottles. I like gin, and I can certainly tell the difference between gin and water.

Just wanted to wish all my fellow NYC bound FTers safe travels... and hopefully we may bump into each other.

We are taking the train up from Rochester tomorrow.

Happy Holidays.

I just arrived in the area (Hyatt Jersey City, switching to GH NYC today), but without a reservation for Dec 31st.

If someone has a room left at the Marquis, pls message me - otherwise I must party all night and move to a new room on the 1st

Would also love to join any Flyertalker meeting in NYC.

Well, I'm here. The restaurant that overlooks TS is sold out, and it is not clear that there is any good way of viewing the TSNYE festivities without standing out in the crowd for 5 hrs like everyone else. But the location is just a couple of feet away from TS, and our room key will re-admit us to the hotel. I'd love to hear from anyone else who's here.

Sorry that I did not see this message but unless I go to an e-cafe, and I did not this trip, I just do not go online.
Perhaps we should have made more effort to make contact with our real names prior to going so that we would have been able to call each other in the hotel. @:-)

Jerrie and I went out to the square and after an indeterminable (and for Jerrie an ordeal) time we finally got into the square. We had a great time with others from North Carolina, Montana, Florida, Canada, Korea, Portugal, etc., etc., but never did meet someone who said they were from New York

Belle3388 called us on her cell phone while we were in the square to say she had seen us on TV but Jerrie's phone was off and we did not get the message until the next day.

We met one young couple also from North Carolina who flew up that day for the festivities. Then they were going to spend all night on the streets and catch an 800am flight from lga home. I told them about FT

All in all with the price of the Marquis, dinner with the dhammer53's in White Plains, some theatre and participation in the 100th anniversary of the celebration on the square it was a worthwhile time. ^

Would I do the celebration again?

Apologies to the purists for making this post into a mini trip report. I promise not to do it again.
