Hi, my name is Saphira2021 and I am new here. I don't fly often, but do love to travel. I was always stuck on getting my cash back on my credit cards, but just recently, with some posts from someone here on another forum, realized what i have been missing. so looking for a place where i can get advice on the best ways to earn free miles, what credit cards do best, other tips and tricks.
I have traveled quite a bit in my life and can't wait to get going again. Live in NJ USA now. looking forward to learning all the ins and outs. |
Who am I
Wilful from SoCal. My bride and I used to travel a lot, but having a grandbaby here part time, along with my bride still working full time, cuts into travel time.
Someone on Trip Advisor suggested I bring my particular travel experience here. We have traveled extensively around the globe for decades - and have only had one rather unpleasant experience. |
Australian, formerly resident in Sydney for 30+ years, now living in Seattle. Many trans-Pacific flights, especially in last 10 years. Also love European travel.
|
Acornragazzo here. I've lived in Mexico and the US. I travel all over with the dance company I work for. I've spent a lot of time in Germany over the past few years and I'll be moving to Köln in the near future.
|
I'm a Scot from a little town in the middle of nowhere, but I recently moved to France for work. Formerly a budget airline lover, I've only recently got in on the loyalty game. I travel primarily for leisure and love taking the scenic route - as long as it doesn't take too much longer!
|
I'm blackdawn2 from St Louis. I used to be top tier on TWA but now I fly AA less frequently but make more money. So now I can just buy AA tickets and do a mileage run if I need more miles.

23 years and still going Navy guy here. Seen plenty of the blue marble from the blue ends... Despite my 'worldly' travels, it seems I might be a relative newbie amongst this crowd.
I know it is crazy- but when I shift gears from Navy blue to Corporate Blue, I'd really like to get into a gig with heavy travel requirements. I welcome (and thankful for) any pointers/advice in finding such jobs! Be good! Curtis (P.S. this is my 1st post despite having been a member for a while...) |
hello
Hello my name is Bryan. I love traveling by air. It is fast, easy, and saves time. I live in the USA. Travel mainly within the USA

Welcome and thank you for your service Curtis,
Depending on your skills and interests, if you are thinking corporate blue, I recommend heading for the next four years to college and take advantage of the benefits you have earned. Once complete with a BA, jobs in sales, engineering, and IT can all be leveraged to travel for business. Now if college isn't your thing? Careers with major companies that have clients (but not service centers worldwide) might be the way to go. I'll be honest, I am not an expert on this area but have met many blue collar on different flights. I also know there are security services that some former members of the military have signed up with. Another option is the foreign service. This was an option I looked at but did not pursue. Good luck!

Good luck! My most recent assignment was with the NAVSEA organization as a field representative (yes, the same organization featured heavily in the news the last few days). This job was essentially an internal audit/oversight type of duty and I found myself flying quite a lot for site visits for inspections/audits/etc. While I am a Naval Officer, I got here without a degree- but will be finished with a BS (Engineering Technology) degree and may be complete with the MS (either Organizational Leadership or possibly MBA) Kids are done with college (that's where I spent my benefits- Post 911 GI Bill allowed me to transfer it to them...). I am divorced, and I have an absolute THIRST for air travel. Good thing is, I have some time to coordinate the degree(s) before I finally retire- and this gives me time to get familiar with what sorts of jobs can help satisfy that thirst! Thanks again for the welcome and vote of confidence! Be Good! Curtis |
Welcome again Curtis,
You are a little "greyer" around the ears than I was first imagining. So am I, or as my hair stylist says, I used to be salt and pepper, but now I have lost my pepper. You can likely leverage the internal audit and oversight in many ways. In fact, my current role is that of Vendor Audit, where I go out an make sure our vendors are protecting our information the same way they have agreed to contractually. My specialty is the technical controls. I am sure you know this, but Network, Network, Network in your current position. Get all of your contacts from your current travels and companies you come into contact with into your LinkedIn. I am biased (since I also have one) but I think an MBA is a great way to go. Nothing against Organizational Leadership also though. Combining the technical and educational skills with the business skills of either MS will make you a stronger candidate. Good luck Tom

It's about time I posted an introduction of myself, as I certainly spend enough time browsing the site and forums.
I live in Florida and have a somewhat strange job title, but I'm basically a training coordinator/manager for one location of a large consumer products manufacturing company. I'm recently engaged (to be married in Summer 2014!) to the love of my life and look forward to years of traveling with her, now that my eyes are opened to the world of points and miles. Admittedly, I was a "cash back only" guy for years, but I've sense seen the error of my ways. Some unique little tidbits about me: 1) I have 1 cat, 3 ring neck doves, and 1 hedgehog 2) I really enjoy hiking, backpacking, and camping, but rarely get to participate in these activities since taking on my position with the organization where I work, due simply to time and my commute. 3) I'm a guy, but hate sports. I simply can't understand why people are so interested in following "their" team. Don't flame... it's just the honest truth :-P 4) I love researching products! People think it's crazy, but I really do enjoy looking into which products are best for different situations. 5) I have a phobia of being late. It's to the point that I generally show up >30 mins early to [non-work] related appointments/functions/events. Weird, but true. Well, that's a high-level version of "me" with a few intimate details thrown in. If y'all want to know more, let me know... I really like the crowd here! |
Network washer,
Welcome. What part of Florida. I have just purchased a place in Port Charlotte.

Who we all are
Wow, 194pages to a post that was started 15 years ago when Internet access was preceded with a long frustrating wait accompanied with that awful dial up noise (and all phone conversations had to stop!!)
My first flight was on CX from TPE-HKG (yes, still Kai Tak!) I'm guessing in 1989. And I've not stopped flying since! Taiwan-born, immigrated to the Netherlands, then moved to the UK, then back to NL, and finally crossed the Atlantic to Canada five years ago to study air (and space) law! Now I work for a journal related to aviation (and space). I've got family in Asia and Europe, which makes flying (and "going for gold"!) part of my life. Funnily enough, it's only in the last five years, thanks to a dear friend, that I've really paid attention to loyalty/frequent flyer programmes... Oh, all those miles I'm missing from all those years of flying earlier on! Four years *Gold and counting... "I've earned it!" Love the excitement of flying (and traveling), especially that exhilaration and buzz of an airport with all these people coming and going. (Ok, ok, there's also a buzz skipping before "the great unwashed" in the priority line at checkin (and at times security...)) Must have a window seat to admire how vast and beautiful of this amazing world is and take in the changing colours of the skies as the plane jets off to another far away destination. So many more places to go, so many more flights to take, so many many more stories to share! :) |
I'm currently in the Jacksonville area.
