Hi

Been a passive reader of FT for the past year now with a post here and there. I used to do a lot of international business travel up till 2003 but change of jobs has thwarted the fun days.
2008 and 2009 has shown a little promise in terms of business travel but it was all domestic US travel.
I love aviation photography and go crazy taking pictures whenever I am flying.
Name: Omkar Tambalkar
Location: Sunny San Diego, CA USA
Profession: Computer Network Engineer
Age: 32

When the economy gets better, I am gonna switch to a consulting job that involves lot of travel....single and travelling.....sweet!!

Cheers!!

New guy, here.

My basic stats:

Live and work primarily in LA, fly to MCO every two weeks to spend time with my son. My elderly mom is also there, so I hang out with her, check to make sure she's cool, we stay with her to give her some activity, then I'm out either early, wheels up by 7am, or preferably in the afternoon, usually on DL 1430, home by 10:30-11pm.

So basically, I get to see my wife 26 weeks out of the year. He graduates in three years, man. Then he can truck his butt out here to UCLA, by God. (Crossing fingers.)

Speaking of my wife; yes, she is as a matter of fact, a saint.

Delta man. Platinum. Used to Love United, but, you know...

That's about it.

Nice to meet you guys. Probably know some of you.

An Introduction

Hi, I've just joined Flyer Talk today and thought I should introduce myself. I found the site through a consumer site that linked to the Virgin Flying Club Forum. Having had a look around the site I was really impressed with the number of different topics covered so thought I’d join.

I’m 48, single and living & working in the South of England. Unfortunately there is very little opportunity for business travel at the present time but I do a fair amount of leisure travel both within the UK and overseas. I’m always on the lookout for good deals and like to collect loyalty points where I can so I think this site is going to be really useful.

I’ve built up points in a few hotel and airline loyalty programmes and with the current financial situation and the weakness of Sterling I think I’m going to need to use some in 2009. I’ve already had a couple of free hotel nights this year and have enough BMI Miles to get me a couple of European flights. I’ve also managed to build up 115, 000 Virgin Flying Club Miles which, if I decide to blow them all on a bit of luxury, will get me an Upper Class trip to my favourite destination Las Vegas.

See you all around the forums.

Cheers
Clive

Hi all, I'm Scott here in SAN (but still find myself missing EAU). I'm a government flier so I don't always have the luxury of picking and
choosing my carrier. I manage to stay gold on AA, silver on NW and Marriott. That's mostly from conference and training travel. I keep my miles with one of the major alliances. The TPAC miles to NRT or GUM really help.
I usually don't get too uppity about lack of upgrades since quite frequently the last leg of my trip will be in a C-2A or one of the H-60's I'm going to fix. The accomodations at the end are more than likely to be a rack aboard ship. I'm an A&P mechanic and FCC GROL so its sometimes a little hard to tune out the aircraft when I am travelling.
I'm really enjoying all the tidbits I pick up here on Flyertalk since with the combined audience, everyone here does know everything. ;)

I was browsing around finding deals for our trip to Disney and run into this website. So far the plane tickets are the most expensive thing, with grandma coming along that makes 6 of us!

Hope all are well

Going home to Ireland for a month

Hello, I'm from Ireland, lived in England and Spain, been living in Orlando FL for 17 years.
My husband was in the US Navy for 22 years, so we've flown Space A a few times. My favourite flight ever was on board a Galaxy C-5 from Mildenhall UK to Charleston SC.
I've flown most of the Airlines crossing the Pond, and on Friday evening I leave on British Airways from MCO to LGW.
Will be met by my son and grandson Thomas Patrick, who is 23 months.
Then I'll be going to Ireland for a few days on Ryanair, which is always an adventure!
I have been to all States that had a disaster in recent years, as I am contracted to FEMA as a damage inspector. I drove to Louisiana and Texas after their 2008 hurricanes.

i thought you were predatory beasts

hello there, i work in air operations for a large agency and i came to know FlyerTalk through a very unpleasant experience with a certain persnickety Aamerican carrier. i was alerted with great fanfare the users of FT were so cool, smart enough to figure out pricing the same airfare on another website was going to use a different plating carrier - which would get them a cheaper price. Even better, the FT peeps were so awesome they even knew that price difference was YQ taxes -- the dreaded fuel surcharge (that is by no means a tax under any law). After an awful fright of a debit memo, an Office 2007 upgrade so my Excel spreadsheet could have more than 65,000 rows, etc., I was able to remember you guys were cool in your own way. I decided not to hate you at all.

in fact, i really have to love you for the YQ thing - admire, even. fuel surcharges are not taxes; you don't get to just declare a tax and pocket it. they need to raise the price of the base fare if they need some gas money.

but i feel weird reading different posts encouraging people to go out and take advantage of a poor fare filer's mistake not typing enough zeros.
in this day and age i do. 10 years ago i felt quite differently, i'm sure. but today's industry is so sad and hurting. it holds together by weirdos who just love this complex, bizarre world of ancient technologies and 35 categories of fare rules for whatever strange reason keeps us employed for less and less money every year.

so, that's who i am. and you know the airlines read all your posts. i do sometimes, when i'm worried about something. and this means we all have a good relationship, right? you help us find our mistakes so, in your own way, you might just deserve the prize of that fantabulous deal too-good-to-be-true gone in a few hours.
and keep rocking those fuel surcharges!! there are plenty of ways to work around; y'all seem smart enough. in fact, if you find yourself in a mood, send a little note to the DOT and let 'em how you feel about the effect fuel surcharges bundled into a YQ "tax" could have on airfare disclosure regulation. (blame the europeans, they started it) while it makes sense you can buy different air fares at different prices on many websites (including the mistakes), surely you deserve to get the same air fare at the same price point wherever it is found (including the mistakes)? thought about it that way? like there are rights.
