Good question Jane!
The South Tucson International Frequent Flyer Society started back in the 20th Century when BlondeBomber came down to Tucson lookin' for
me!
, but took a break to meet up with another FlyerTalker.

It's still pretty hot here now, but we had two days in a row last week when the temperature didn't hit 100, so I guess it's about time to get serious about planning for the Third Annual S.T.I.F.F.S. Meeting.
It doesn't look like we'll have enough of a crowd to meet the minimum for a banquet at the Arizona Inn, so I'll suggest that we have dinner on Saturday at the El Corral Steakhouse. Good food, moderate prices, it's been around since the 1930's.
For a Saturday afternoon excursion I'll suggest a trip to the Kitt Peak National Observatory, about an hour from Tucson, and about 4,000' above the valley floor. We could bring a picnic lunch, take a tour of the 'scopes and enjoy the views of the surrounding desert and mountains.

Paul,
Kitts Peak sounds great. Someone mentioned to me that the Kartchner (sp?) caverns might be interesting too. Can we get both in on Saturday, or maybe visit the caverns on Sunday?
I'll know for sure by next week if I'll be able to make it, probably will.

Kartchner Caverns is definitely worth a visit, a number of us went there for STIFFS I 2 years ago. Reservations can be hard to get, particularly on weekends, but it's usually possible to get tickets by just showing up in the morning.
In November the "Big Room" will open to the public for the first time. It's 1.7 acres, and will be open seasonally, due to the fact that it is the summer home to about 1,000 Myotis velifer bats.

Hey guys,
As I finalize my planning, it looks like there aren't events scheduled for Friday yet. So, would I be OK to plan to drive from Phx Sat. AM? (i.e. sleep in Phx Friday?)
Also, is there a base hotel, or hotels that are more convenient than others?? Looks like the priceline hotels recently have been the Hilton El Conquistador resort for $55; the Hilton East for $37, the Radisson Suites east for $37, and the Sheraton 4 Points for $35. Suggestions?
