FT Running Do

Whilst out pounding the pavement tonight I had an idea for an FT Running DO. I noticed on other boards, that several members run on a regular basis. What do folks think of a group of FlyerTalkers getting together and doing a 10K, 1/2 Marathon or Marathon together? It can either be a carbo loading (aka beer) fun event, or something with a bit of fundraising to a worthwhile charity.

Obviously we would not want to set up our own race, so I suggest we go as a group into some other organisations race. In the spirit of FT it has to be someplace unique though.

Happy to help organise, if others think this is a good idea.

Happy Trails.

I'd be interested in anything under a 13.1 miles.

Running 26.2 once was enough!

I'm interested. I'm doing the Chicago Marathon on October 12. There are a few pretty exotic ones out there such as the Great Wall of China and the Antarctic marathons.

How about the Marathon du Medoc et des Graves which is a race through the vineyards of the Bordeaux region in France. Many runners dress up in different crazy costumes, one can sample wine along the route, have dinner at a chateaux etc. I'm not a marathon runner but this has always interested me, sounds like a lot of fun.

Edited to add link:

This is a great idea! The Great Wall or other "exotic" would be incredibly fun.
I'll be interested right after I get back from through-hiking the Appalachian Trail
<not joking...I'm off for seven months, starting March 18, 2004>

My roommate thru-hiked the PCT in 2001. Finished in Sept, then ran the Portland Marathon w/o training 4 weeks later.

While I can't make the Running Do, please feel free to include me in the next Drinking Do.

My father always told me I should play to my strengths.

I'd love to do Great Wall of China Half...was seriously thinking about doing it in a few years (great way to celebrate turning 40?) and a couple of my virtual training buddies have done the Antarctic Marathon, although due to WX, they had to do it by running around the deck of the ship!

For a shorter race, the BridgeRun (10K in April) in CHS is fun although extremely crowded. Or Shamrock Shuffle in Cgo in March (8k)?

Assuming I DNS, I'm doing Disney in January (I did the half last year).

I love the idea. I'm game as long as it fits into my teaching schedule. I'd opt for half-M or less, not competitive - there are enough competitive outlets around already and I personally prefer to choose my races for reasons other than FT participation. (I've run eight marathons, but the last was in 1987 and I doubt I'll get into shape for another.)

Wow. Any chance we could get a trip report ?

I think this is a great idea. I am shooting for San Diego and Big Sur next year with the odd 50K and Ironman triathlon thrown in.
