UA is having a fare sale, SFO-SIN - lv Jan17, ret Jan 20, $535....
|
Now I'm kicking myself for choosing the HKG-SIN route on the outbound. Looks like I'm the only one doing the outbound on the 17th on that route.... oh well.
Anyway gang this is my first time to meet up with other FT members, looking forward to meeting all of you , folks like SanDiego1K ! One important note, Singapore is home for me ,so no hotel required ! [This message has been edited by sunil (edited 11-13-2002).] |
sunil,
Will be great to have a local to advise and intrigue with local bits of info. First FT events are fun. I assume you will be a bit hungry by the time you roll in on Saturday evening so shall I add your name to the Lau Pa Sat stop? You could help us pick the good stuff, la. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Mike ------------------ Markbach's FT picture page My Starbucks City Mug Collection Page NYC Football Bet Payoff Mini-Do SIN Mid Jan. 2003.....Let the mileage begin....... |
mjm - Thanks again for the website....I guess I'm as up as anyone for the Sunday EARLY A.M. "dinner"!!
And here's hoping that the person(s) currently assigned 15A,B, or J,,,simply fails to show up!! Best wishes. |

My cell phone (Nextel) works in SIN, but, sadly we had to change our trip to later in the month as we both developed conflicting work interests.
Darn I would like to win that lottery. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif |
Put me on the list. Leave 1-17 united#897 & #881 to sin. Return on Monday. Will be at the conrad.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif This is what happens when you book trips in March (2002) for the following January (2003)...
Conference Championships Sunday, Jan. 19 NFC Championship Game, 3:00 pm on FOX AFC Championship Game, 6:30 pm on CBS (I'm lamenting missing the games; clearly the Raiders won't make it this far so mjm has nothing to worry about. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif) Oh well, at least I didn't choose the following weekend. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Not that any Superbowl could be as exciting as last year's. |
<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by sunil: I actually would need a stiff drink more than food after a flight from BOS http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif . We may set a late night rendezvous down on the Quay or similar and then see where or what people are into for post midnight consumption. I shall be available to take people to Lau Pa Sat, but it might be fun to whet our appetites on the Quay first. <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2"> This is what happens when you book trips in March (2002) for the following January (2003)... Now if you are on the flight out Monday morning like I am we will both be in the same boat, err.........plane. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Mike ------------------ Markbach's FT picture page My Starbucks City Mug Collection Page NYC Football Bet Payoff Mini-Do SIN Mid Jan. 2003.....Let the mileage begin....... |
rbernheim,
Your name and data are now uploaded onto the page. Glad to have you aboard sir. I have also made a minor adjustment to the Dinner Plans page to clearly identify regular dinner form late night, late arrival food court munchies. I will further update this to include rendezvous details for late arrivals and RCC meetings. Hopefully by the end of the weekend. Is it January yet? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Mike ------------------ Markbach's FT picture page My Starbucks City Mug Collection Page NYC Football Bet Payoff Mini-Do SIN Mid Jan. 2003.....Let the mileage begin....... |

Tough finding places to watch the games. |
MJM,
Lau Pa Sat it is. Curious, what time is the UDMC open till? the dinner plans for earlier in the night have me jonesen for a chili crab (and pepper crab) thanks for the shower offer, but I will leave myself enough time to shower AND lie down for 30 minutes in dark/quiet at the Conrad. Flight to HKG leaves at 6:50am, so I figure I can leave the Conrad at 5:15am via taxi. Willie |
Sweet Willie,
Hmmmm...., UDMC,? I thought it was the U.K. (obscure Pistols referernce) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Not sure, but you will find a multitude of exotic and delicious things at Lau Pa Sat. Cannot guarantee crabs at Lau Pa Sat, but I would not be terribly surprised. I am sure we'll find plenty of spicy seafood though. Lots to try in this SE Asian crossroads. I am 90% sure that there were chili crabs at Lau Pa Sat at night. If not, Forum Seafood is open until 1 am-ish and there is where I have gotten my fix during my last two overnight SIN turns... a mere four blocks away from Lau Pa Sat on Boat Quay.
|
I'll be in SIN during that time, so mark me down for the dining festivities.
They have a grreat restaurant on the top of the Swiss hotel (70th floor or something) if you're still looking for a spot for Sat night. Arriving from HKG on Jan 12, leaving for HKG on Feb 12. I doubt I'll see many of you on my flights |
seanthepilot,
I have added your name to the Dinner Plans page. Welcome aboard sir and we shall see you there. I was however quite sure that the next SEA in which I would see you would have been SEAttle rather than SE Asia. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Mike ------------------ Markbach's FT picture page My Starbucks City Mug Collection Page NYC Football Bet Payoff Mini-Do SIN Mid Jan. 2003.....Let the mileage begin....... Mr. & Mrs. "Goodknight" coming via HNL=NRT-SIN ( UA#881 arrives Jan. 17th) It's a "Q" fare, they say not upgradeable with miles..Sooo, us 1P's will be in "steerage" or "behind the curtain" as MAULD sez...Hopefully, the "do" will compensate for the bad ride..Then, it should be the Conrad 'til Jan 22...Say what, when, where.....name tags? Ralph

Okay, I'm a SIN virgin (boy, does that sound wrong or what?), but I am serious thinking about giving this a shot.
But I am having no luck so far spotting a reasonable fare on either AA or NW (I'd be willing to fly either, although I think I'd prefer to fly NW). I'm an NW newbie and haven't got all the tricks down on routing, I think. Or have all the cheap fares gone away? I've been trying to depart on 1/15 and 1/16 and return on 1/20. Thanks! Steve |
When I was new, I found to just find a res agent on the phone was the best help. hey are the pros (sometimes).
Call and tell 'em you want to go for this weekend, but dates are flexible. If they find something for you put it on hold. That's when the brainstorming begins. Now what if I change this. What if I change that. Without changing what I have, if I tried to connect through here, what would happen to the fare. Until it's best you can. Remember the FT mantra.... if the agent can't/won't be of assistance, politely say thank you, hang up, try again1 |
The website is now updated to welcome goodknight and his wife to the run to SIN. Two more to make the party a bit merrier. Nice one, la. (SIN speak = appending "La" to everything)
Additionally, I have added sllevin to the W/L status list at the top of the page. Good luck with the fares, but I imagine somebody here or on the NW forum will be very able to help you take the luck factor out and assist you in grabbing a good fare. Looking good............ http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ------------------ Markbach's FT picture page My Starbucks City Mug Collection Page NYC Football Bet Payoff Mini-Do SIN Mid Jan. 2003.....Let the mileage begin....... Nice to have you join us. Ron |
Dan,
Most excellent! Knew you could not stay away. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Will look out for your details and I shall, for the moment update the page to show your attendance. Should get to that later this evening (EST). So what are the plans for Sunday?
I'm free all day. Dan |
Dan - Not at all certain what the plans for Sunday are.....but I can guess that they include some food and DRINK!
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif Best wishes. |
Dan,
You have been officially added to the webpage now. I will add flight details when you are ready. We are up to three lines of runners on the page now. This place (FT) is great! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Mike ------------------ FT picture page (hosted by markbach) My Starbucks City Mug Collection Page NYC Football Bet Payoff Mini-Do SIN Mid Jan. 2003.....Let the mileage begin....... |
I'll be headed to Raffles on Sunday afternoon for tea in the Billiard Room. Mmmmm - a perfect combination of East and West, with the traditional British foods and Asia dim sum.
|
Hi All - Although many of you may be "veteran" SIN runners, I'm not,,,,and just ran across an interesting website that has much information on what to do, how to get around, etc.
The premise of the site is on "low-cost" travel, but it offers some hints that could be of use to almost anyone. It's located at: www.the-inncrowd.com Hope you find it at least worth a 'checking-out'. Best wishes, and see you in SIN! |
Another good source for Singapore information is United Airline's 3 Perfect Days in Singapore.

Thanks for the link Carol....that too is a good one that I'd never have found otherwise!!
Best wishes. |

Regarding eating in SIN:
http://www.makansutra.com/index.php http://www.expatsingapore.com/eating/eatingout.htm Looking forward to the big get-together!!! Rob. |
Rob - Thanks for the links!! Now, the tough part will be simply DECIDING where to go!!
The EastCoast Park Seafood Centre certainly looked interesting, but I'm sure that others with "local" insight will come up with ideas that are at least that good! Looking forward to a few chili crabs! Best wishes. |
I am really tempted on switching my flight to a week earlier to join you all, but at the expense of missing my Lake Tahoe getaway...arrhhggg..decisions....
There are way too many places to eat in SIN, and some of the best places are at local food centers. Dun miss out the sambal stingray...it is absolutely to die for...well literally. btw, there are some good deals off priceline.com.sg. I have seen bids for around US$60 for Marriott, right smack in the middle of Orchard. Now if only I can decide to go to AMS or MAD during the last week of Dec....arghhh...decisions.. |

Web page has just been updated with all recent flight details.
I still owe you all a section on meeting plans for the NRT RCC. This week has become a "wish there were 26 hours per day" kind of week, so although I shall do this ASAP, next week will see it for sure, this week, maybe. Back to you soon.......... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ------------------ FT picture page (hosted by markbach) My Starbucks City Mug Collection Page NYC Football Bet Payoff Mini-Do SIN Mid Jan. 2003.....Let the mileage begin....... |
