To get from the Westin (aahh nice!) to the Observatory (very nice!) have a look at the Westin Map. Zoom out the map, and the Observatory is just off the top left of the map. It would be about a 20 minute walk - I suggest head north (towards the Harbour Bridge) on George, left (west) onto Margaret, then right (north) onto Kent Street. Your concierge may suggest going through Wynyard station.

The Observatory is right near the toll gates at the bottom of the Sydney Harbour Bridge (Bradfield Highway), an easy walk on Argyle Street to The Rocks on the other side of the Bradfield Highway.

Have a look at Whereis for more detail.

There is a dark green tall building with gold top. you can see it if you fly over the city coming in or from the water. its just near there.
The green building is called the observatory tower.
May not make it monday guys as we have a family gathering so have a great lunch.

I actually land at noon - off CX101 from HKG - I figure on being at the hotel by 12:45, showered and ready for business by 1PM.

BTW - who in SYD is even awake at 9AM the day after Australia Day http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Perhaps we Americans need to teach you boys how to celebrate the national holidays THe morning after is usually pretty ugly however.

Re the Super Bowl - if you guys promise not to empty the mini bar, I can arrange for you to get access to my suite at 9 or 10AM - we could then retire to the Globe bar for lunch after the game. We can make our own party if enough people show - just a thought

Not much. I've been in Oz since the 27th December. Started off in Sydney before going to Cairns, Melbourne and Perth. I may head up the coast a bit or just hang around in Sydney or Manly. I'm leaving SYD on Friday on QF107. I don't arrive from Perth until 18:10 so I could be pushed to get to Seaforth (where my friends live) to drop off my luggage before heading back in towards the CBD.

Well, it is a few hours into Sunday here, and this is looking set for MONDAY. Is around 1pm at Observatory still looking good for the folks here? Joh has a family committment, and sadly now can't make it, but I am 95% right now.

I'm sorry I missed the gathering. That being said, I just have to point out how wonderful a place SYD is, and recommend that ANYONE who gets the chance make a point to visit!

I just got home from an all-too-brief 4.5 days there, and am already working on plans to return in the next few months. The beauty and hospitality of Sydney (shared, from what I understand, by the rest of the country as well) is unrivaled in any of the many countries I've travelled to over the years.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie... Oy! Oy! Oy!
