Ref jobs with miles
A poster put on the previous thread he had logged up 1500000 miles in six years. At an average speed of 450 miles per hour thats over 3300 hours or around 139 days and nights sat on aircraft.
Sad or what ?
Now call me old fashioned but if I had to choose to spend that amount of time with my wife or be able to brag about how many miles I had flown and what an expert FF I was, I think I might have to go for the __________---------_________ option.
Answers on a postage stamp please.

This individual is definitely interesting to talk to and does log enough time at home to follow his favorite sporting teams avidly and have relationships.
I'm not sure what your sudden posting blitz today to Community is all about, but starting posts to blast well respected members of our community is not "our way" here.

I think I'm the poster in question. First of all, I fly mostly long haul so we pretty much go 500-600 MPH on the 744's. You might want to rework your math. Secondly, spread things out over 6 years, and it's not really a lot. Third, I'll take my visiting and exploring 75 or so countries, meeting wonderful friends, trying every kind of food and drink imaginable, learning bits and pieces of over 25 languages, etc. over most any other experience I can imagine. If you don't get it, you need to get out more.

To put it in perspective, 1,500,000 miles in 6 years is 250,000 miles a year. That's only twice what I average, and I don't think I fly anywhere near an excessive amount. In fact, I wish I could travel more. And I spend more time with my family that most earthbound people of my acquaintance. So what's your point, Steve Fenton?

Well said, Techgirl, coudnt agree more. I find it particulary amusing that the poster is bashing someone over flying too much when he himself has flown deep discount, one class Ryanair over a 100 times, see below

The only upside is how fit he must be from running to the airplane to snag the good (I use the term loosely) seats.
Not so sure about the deep discount either. Last week my cousin flew FR from STN to KIR. I priced the flight a week before departure at Stg162. It was a tough decision but I decided to go LHR-MIA in Jan for Stg214 (incl. food) instead.

Obviously a serious lack of sense of humour on here by you techy airline junkies. But then again it is a known fact that the English do have a much better sense of humour than the Americans. (Devils advocote rule book section 5 )
Flying Ryanair sould be on everyones list of things to do, not only does it keep you fit, it opens your eyes to how much you can improve the bottom line on your P&L account.I love to watch the bun fight when they open the traps, whilst they are all pushing and shoving to get on at the front I usually walk straight to the back steps and find a row for myself.
I own my business 100% and as far as I am concerned the money I have saved using Ryanair has paid for a lot of nice thngs for my family.
I would guess a lot of you junkies dont actually pay out of your own pockets for your travel and that makes a difference.
I do feel that Easyjet and Ryanair have really opened air travel to millions of people who only ever saw it as a rich persons way of getting from A to B, and to me thats good.
Unfortunately we are still seeing airlines such as KLM and BA who have people that have worked there for many years still and a feeling that they are something special. I cannot stand staff who look down there nose at you when you ask where the business lounge is and make an assumption because you are not wearing expensive clothes and therefore cannot possile be a card holder. What they forget is that casual dressers like me pay the salary.
Anyway having re-worked the maths I still think that amount of time in the air is a serious peice of your life gone. One of my new year resoloutions is to cut back to an absolute minimum the number of flights I will take next year, you can fly all you like when you get to heaven. Do you need to be a million miler to get to heaven ???
Lighten up and see the funnny side of what I wrote

And what has all this to do with COMMUNITY, SF? If you are saving such money by flying RYANAIR, great for you and the INLAND REVENUE. You do pay them a hefty share of your savings, I hope?
As for a sense of humour, it is not something restricted to those bred in the UK. It just varies from country to country, culture to culture. You have RYANAIR, the Yanks have SOUTHWEST. Most Americans seem to know where to post their FT messages, you on the other hand, cannot seem to find the appropriate fora for yours.

I've never had to shut down a thread entirely: moved many, but never locked one completely. I guess this is a first ... what a sad day for the FT Community.
Sorry to have to do this folks.
