SIN yet again?

As of today, United has brought back inexpensive VXSP17/VWSP17 fares from the US to SIN/BKK/TPE. Naturally, this has sparked much discussion of another SIN run/do over in the UA forum. AA appears to be matching fares in at least the BOS/NYC/WAS markets, so it seemed appropriate to begin a thread in Community to include that larger group.

Who would be up for a 7hr turn in SIN/BKK/TPE sometime in November? Probably weekend of Nov 1-3, Nov 8-10 or Nov 15-17.

My currently booked tickets already have me requalifying for 1K and EXP by the end of October, but I'd be up for it just for the fun of it (because what could be more fun than spending 40+ hours on a plane and 7 hours in SIN with a bunch of FTers?!? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif )

Anyone? Bueller?

kenjih Oct 8, 2002 9:07 pm

I'm interested because of an expiring UA ticket (although AA is interesting too). I'm not sure about the 7hr turn part but I'll think about it.

I suggest 15th or the 8th (if the BOS get together falls through)

ChinaShark Oct 8, 2002 10:02 pm

Already booked two BKK runs/fun before this new pricing. Still got a good price for the first and happy with the second considering the dates. Since I didn't originally book them to be pure runs, I'm o.k. with the prices I got. Anyway, would be interested to see if any FT's are on my flights.

Nov. 28
UA 6692 PDX/SEA 10:54am - 11:49am
UA 875 SEA/BKK 12:30pm - 11:25pm +1

Dec. 09
UA 876 BKK/SEA 07:00am - 08:10am
UA 6691 SEA/PDX 09:45am - 10:34am
Total (incl. tax) = $662.50

Dec. 24
UA 6690 PDX/SEA 08:15am - 09:07am
UA 875 SEA/BKK 12:35pm - 11:25pm +1

Dec. 30
UA 876 BKK/SEA 07:00am - 08:20am
UA 6691 SEA/PDX 09:45am - 10:34am
Total (incl. tax) = $995.50

Oh how I wish 875/876 had E+ http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

1st or 8th looks good for me...

... my preference is for the 8th.

I012609 Oct 9, 2002 7:40 am

I actually need one more run to put me into 1K land...either of those weekends looks good to me.

IAH_FLYER Oct 9, 2002 7:49 am

I'm going to SIN on 11/1-11/3...first timer.

How long is 'enough' time to actually leave the airport in SIN and NRT? I have a little less than 6 hrs in SIN and only 3h40m in NRT...is that enough time to venture into NRT city?

This is on CO/NW BTW...

skofarrell Oct 9, 2002 8:46 am

Lots to do in 4/6 hours. Check out this thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum81/HTML/002294.html

I will be there 11/21 thru 11/25...guess I will miss you all.

zoegksf Oct 9, 2002 12:22 pm

I want to cry http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif Wah wah wheres the wahambulance. All my new buddies are going again and I won't/can't. I am so booked up until next year already, but next year watch me goooooooooooo. I think it's also my turn to host the mini-bar clean out, so keep that in mind, but I guess with a 7 hour turn thats not an issue. As I said next year. Happy travels http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Morrissey Oct 9, 2002 8:35 pm

I shall be there Nov. 25 through Nov. 29. Gotta love those point stretcher awards at the Conrad! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

techgirl Oct 9, 2002 9:24 pm

What weekend are we doing this guys?

Time to ticket....

BingoSF Oct 9, 2002 9:43 pm

Only Nov 15-17 would work for me. But don't schedule around me - I'll be away for the 3 prior weekends and will likely be all out of clean clothes by then http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

kenjih Oct 10, 2002 3:55 pm

I shall deprive you of comment :-)

techgirl Oct 10, 2002 4:02 pm

November 15 means I miss out on part of my triple miles since the mileage buffet ENDS 11/15.

(oh yes, I know you are ALL feeling sorry for me....) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

We all want to know who we have to bribe at UAL to get targeted for that promo. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

JSD Oct 15, 2002 12:42 pm

Just FYI - some good news for would-be November SIN-runners on UA and AA:

AA matches UA Asia fares

UA extends ticket date on cheapo Asia fares to Oct 25.

techgirl Oct 15, 2002 12:54 pm

So November 8th to November 10th? (assuming the AA folks need a 21 day advance?)

kenjih Oct 15, 2002 2:07 pm

sounds like it. i am a 'maybe/working on it' status at the moment though.

PETEFLYS Oct 15, 2002 2:24 pm

I like the weekend of the 8th.
Monday the 11th is a bank holiday.
count me in as a big maybe for that weekend

700.00 on AA waiting for the confirmed dates.

Hmm, I wish I could make this one but the Hawaii fare is more attractive now.

techgirl Oct 16, 2002 8:58 am

I'm still waiting on the two above mentioned posters to confirm before I make my reservations....

JSD Oct 16, 2002 10:54 am

hmmm... I know I started this thread and all, but I'm sort of having second thoughts. My project is ending next week and I don't know where I'll be next, making it tough to plan advance travel.

kokonutz Oct 16, 2002 11:27 am

I'll give you a dollar if you can tell me what is especially special about that weekend!

techgirl Oct 16, 2002 11:31 am

Your birthday is the 9th. Duh.

Now do you know how I prefer to receive my dollars? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

kokonutz Oct 16, 2002 12:49 pm

Well, I hope it's in spare change from floor of my car, since that will be my net worth by midnight friday!

My first post...

I want to do some travel just for the heck of it and my goal is to earn enough UA miles for 2 1st class tix to Europe next summer...this sounds like a great start.

I found $618 including taxes for SFO-SIN-SFO departing 11/8 and returning to SFO on 11/10.

A few questions:

This looks to be about 18K miles...any way to get some more miles? I know to book online at ual.com and to use my 1st USA visa. Any other tricks?

I am a lowly MP base member...are there ways to get an E+ seat? I'm tall and I've tried the sad eyes while checking in...usually doesn't work...any way to get a better seat short of paying for it?

Anyone else going to be there? We seem to have 7 hours to kill in SIN between midnight and 7am...

Last question...can't we boost the miles by adding some stops...like SFO-LAX-HNL-NRT-SIN? How do I find the intermediate stops to add and how to book?

many thanks,

Ron in SF

Appears to be about 18K miles

Karen2 Oct 18, 2002 9:31 am

If you are a masochist, you can book Narita to Guam to SIN! Costs a little more, has ungodly long layovers, but many more miles! I did not do it but one of our own did who arrived in SIN about the time we did.

Question on the triple miles: Class of service makes a difference. What are you having to pay extra to get those miles? We also received the promo.

PETEFLYS Oct 18, 2002 10:23 am

Will anyone be going the weekend of the 8th to 10th of November?

Class of service makes no difference.

This was a targeted promo and good on all fare classes. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I'm still pricing the 8th to the 10th....

mauld Oct 19, 2002 6:59 am

As I'm all set with top elite status for 2003, I'm now working on 2004. I'm planning to do a EWR-NRT-SIN trip in mid Jan 03. I'll be arriving in SIN around midnight Jan 17 leaving on Jan 20. So if anyone else is looking to get a head start on next years status please let me know http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

stimpy Oct 19, 2002 8:05 am

I'm in SIN now and I just learned that Little India is having a festival starting on Nov. 4th. I'm not sure how long it lasts, but this is already a very popular area so it should be lots of fun.

techgirl Oct 19, 2002 7:22 pm

I'm ticketed for the 1st to the 3rd.

Upgrade opportunities on the reasonably priced flights for the 8th to the 10th were slim to none.

I'm going to use this trip for sleep and to catch up on reading... I'll catch up with the drinking/social crew the next time through.

My wife and I are going on the same dates on CO/NW...maybe you can tell us where to get good late-night chili crabs or other good late night eats/drinks!

Karen2 Oct 22, 2002 3:17 pm

One more for the Weekend with Willie, Dec 7th. Departing Dec 5, arrive midnight Dec 6, have 7th, 8th in SIN, home to SFO Dec 9th. Back on the plane again Dec 11, home Dec 15 - more circuitous route for Prem Ex. Actually Einar is doing the flying. At this point, I am keeping the home fires burning. Hotel up in the air at this point. Where are you staying, Willie?

Since you guys get in an hour after me, I'm going to already be down at Boat Quay (as the restaurant I want to eat at stops serving before I could get there with you guys if I wait), but perhaps we can meet up for drinks and a walk over to the 24-hour hawker market nearby after....
