Las Vegas DO 4-6 Oct

Subject says it all....

Host hotel is Ballys

Looking for FTers to co-host... so far, talking about:

- Friday: Bravo! starring Charo at the Sahara. Tickets are $22 pp.

- Saturday charter a Twin Otter and go sky diving

- dinner at Mon Ami Gabi on Saturday 9:30PM

- Rita Rudner at NY NY on Saturday evening, 7 PM show.

Helicopter tours can be arranged via Heli-USA, which is owned by SkyWest Airlines (same UAX and DL con operator)... they have the best safety record. Grand Canyon tours and Hoover Dam tours can be done via Showtime or through Las Vegas Tour & Travel (702 739 8975).. you can't go "inside" Hoover Dam anymore..

(it's going to be too late to do a Grand Canyon white water trip... the BLM pulls most of the permits on the 15th of September)

Helpful links:
Ballys/Paris http://www.parkplace.com (link fixed, used to ppeXXX.com for their stuff!)
Funjet Vacations http://www.funjet.com (largest hotel block space on the strip and largest charter operator)
MLT Worry Free Vacations http://www.worryfreevacations.com charters from most of the midwest, dallas, detroit, etc.
Trip Reservations http://www.tripres.com GREAT hotel rates in Vegas (most of the time)

Rita Rudner tickets: http://www.newyorknewyorkcasino.com/...t_cabaret.asp#

Charo Bravo! tickets for Friday night: http://www.tripres.com

I have also taken into consideration a "party" from another board... and I tried to keep the dates as far apart as possible so that people could attend both.... only problem is the other weekends in Vegas are packed due to conventions and environmental issues...

Vegas DO website is ONLINE

oh, now you're tempting me. If you're going skydiving, I'm there. I should finish my class-A license (solo skydiving) this weekend and will try to work on getting some jumps over the next couple of months...

I'd be interested in a Las Vegas gathering. The Lake Mead cruise sounds fun, though I'd have to pass on the sky diving.

freefaller12k Jun 6, 2002 5:04 pm

Nate,

I'll be glad to help. I'm not sure I'll still be living here in October, but if not I'll make it back.

As for jumping out of a plane...

Randy Petersen Jun 6, 2002 5:31 pm

Actually Las Vegas really appeals to me (attened UNLV at one time) and I'll try and block out. Not much of a gambler but all the things to do around there is great. Good idea and October starts to cool things down.

I would guess he was trying to link to Park Place properties http://www.parkplace.com/home2.html

They own Bally's, Paris, Flamingo, Caesars and Hilton in Vegas. You can get Hilton credits at any of them.

The _Banking_Scot Jun 8, 2002 2:37 pm

Apart from Caesars Palace.

bowdenj Jun 9, 2002 7:40 pm

Sounds like fun! Put me down as an attendee.

You might want to spell Randy's last name properly... Petersen.

Las Vegas? Flyertalk? My two greatest temptations in the world together at last. Color me confirmed.

ScottC Jun 11, 2002 6:09 pm

Hmmmmm....

1 month after my double RTW and 2 months after the last FT do...

I think I might have to start planning this one!

Pacha Jun 11, 2002 6:26 pm

SKY DIVING...coun't me in http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

j379pa Jun 11, 2002 10:43 pm

It's possible! Please keep me informed!

SeeYa Jun 12, 2002 10:23 am

What a great idea!
Please add me to the "Maybe" list for everything except the skydiving.

ralfkrippner Jun 13, 2002 4:41 am

Great idea, fantastic website & organisation!!!

I ask some of my fellow german/european FT'ers - maybe we could even arrange a 'european delegation'... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
And spend you a cold german beer somewhere in Vegas...

Do you think the UA discount will also be good for international flights?

UAPremierExec Jun 13, 2002 11:38 am

I'll see what I can do in terms of an international discount on United.

UA Sales rep confirmed she will be on the dinner cruise....

I'm working on getting sales reps from National, America West, Delta, LH, Hertz, Alamo/National, Starwood, and Marriott to try to come. Be NICE to these people if they come, as it's on their own time!!!!

:-)

10% off United and National contracts have been signed... booking info is on the website....

http://home.earthlink.net/~lasvegasdo

UAPremierExec Jun 25, 2002 11:57 pm

The United contract requires you book 60 days out to get 10% off, otherwise it's just 5% off *any* published fare..

VEGAS GUY Jun 27, 2002 6:35 pm

Nate, add me to the list of attendee's. And if you need help with any organizing, let me know. Mike in Green Valley

UAPremierExec Jun 28, 2002 10:10 am

Mike, depending on how large this gets, I need to get at least 50 people on the dinner cruise in order to make it work. That's where I need help, also co-hosting it and making sure we get set up w/ Bally/Paris.

The room block dropped to 30 @ Ballys and 20 @ Paris. Room reservations must be made ASAP by calling 800 7Ballys, ask for Room Res, and tell them you are here w/ FlyerTalk. On the 5th of September, I'm releasing our room block to an online travel agency to sell.... so after that, everyone is on their own for rooms, and it's NOT cheap that weekend.... (unless you stay at a Stations Casino).

I'll be in town for a tradeshow I think on 10/6, so pencil me down as a late maybe arriving 10/5.

UAPremierExec Jul 17, 2002 5:44 pm

Lufthansa Sales rep just confirmed...

she will be attending the Lake Mead Dinner Cruise with the United Air Lines Sales Rep.

They both will be bringing goodies :-)

I'm going to try to get American and America West to come out if they can...

wingless Jul 18, 2002 12:06 pm

Put me down for 2.

Yes to Lake Mead

No to sky diving.

I went skydiving on my 19th birthday. It was one of the best experiences in my life. I highly recommend it. The only reason I am not going is because I have sciatica.

But I definetly want to go to the drop zone and watch.

However, you might be able to change my mind.

UAPremierExec Jul 18, 2002 2:06 pm

Carnival Cruise sales rep just confirmed... so far we have:

Lufthansa
United
Carnival

in terms of companies sponsoring the FlyerTalk Las Vegas DO and bringing freebies :-)

UAPremExec -

This sounds like alot of fun and your website is great. I've always read about FT DO's but never attended - they sound like so much fun. I am addicted to FT. I'll think about attending and get back to you when I know for sure.

Whoa! This thread has certainly picked up.

I'll been told I have cabana privileges at a friend's house out there, so I won't need a hotel but, if I can convince my friend to accompany me on the dinner cruise, maybe I'll be helping to get that attendee list up to 150, like so we can score the buffet http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Too fun, I can't wait - thanks UAPremierExec for planning such a varied, great time http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

UAPremierExec Jul 20, 2002 2:59 pm

Lisa,

I figure on about 50 coming from the LA basin once things get closer to the time... most people don't RSVP for a DO until about 4 to 6 weeks out, and if Randy does show, I figure that will pretty much pack the dinner cruise :-)

(as if the idea of free ugprades or tickets on UA or LH isn't enough to convince the Star Alliance gang.. heh)

Btw, to get the "Free stuff" from LH/UA, they're gonna do a game, not sure what, but it will require some participation.... :-)

Gosh, do you think there might be prizes for those who know the least or, rather, are One Worlders?

By the way, did I hear free upgrades?

While this weekend sounds fun, I'm going to have to drop out. I have another commitment for that weekend.

Unfortunately, i won't be able to attend that weekend.

Have a fun time! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
