One Book Can Really Make a Difference. . .
I apologize up front if this posting offends anybody here or if it's in the wrong place, but it was suggested to me by some of the members of the FT community, that I post my book drive plea here.
Perhaps it's just me having an "Oprah moment" or something, but with everything going on in the world, I was considering what I can do to try, just for a few moments, to make the world a better place. I happened upon this website that shows these organizations that are begging for books for kids.
http://www.smartwriters.com/index.2ts?
The two people that struck me most were [email protected] (Portland OR) and [email protected] (Washington, DC). Ms. Black writes that "one book will really make a difference" in her classroom.
If we all send one book to one of these two people, think of the impact you will make upon the life of a child. Also, I thought this would be a very cool geography lesson since they could pin on a map where the books come from. Her students are in fourth grade, but read from 2nd - 6th grade reading levels. Ms. Fox' program is looking for books for 3 - 5 year olds.
Won't you please consider sending a children's book to one of these two places? If you would like, please post here what book(s) you're sending and to whom so we can see how many we've collected.
I know how rich in spirit this community is, so I thank you in advance. I do not know these women at all, but felt that this is something easy that can have immediate impact.

LDSANT,
This was a great idea when you shared it in chat last evening!
I sent my books out today to the teacher in Washington, DC.
I actually taught at that school for Junior Achievement when I lived down there.
They can use all the help they can get... my set of Harry Potter books will be welcomed, I am sure.
Thanks again... hope the entire FT community joins in....

Just pulling this forward.
This is for a great cause... and the teachers and students are so appreciative.
I just got a nice letter in the mail yesterday from one of the schools I sent books to.
Take the time to help a school... they can use any books you have.
