An englishman in LAX - 3rd to 6th Oct

well the time has arrived, having reached the conclusion that there are no well paying jobs in IT security product management, i have decided to take some time off from the search for meaningfull life and a paycheck and instead enjoy life. I am burning up a RTW i bought at the beggining of the year and never had chance to use. Seeing as the SFO do i went to last year was so good, i though it only right that i try and meet a few FTers on my way round the globe.

please post suggestions for time and place - i would tell you where to go in Londn, but that means nothing here

I look forward to seeing you - have fun

Jon

I notice you are going to the LAX / 777Brit dinner on Fri Nite, Oct 4, but you're not scheduled to go to the Vegas DO Dinner with Randy and a whole bunch of other FTers on Sat Nite, Oct 5

Wanna ride?

I am committed to taking a minivan out there instead of flying and, since most my invitees for a free ride will be off to a "secret" DO, I've got room for anyone who wants a "quick" (4-6 hrs) ride up and back.

I plan on picking up people Sat AM and returning on Sun with mandatory stops at the dinosaur for, if anything, souvenier trinkets, and In 'n Out

You can start at In-N-Out at LAX, lunch at In-N-Out in Barstow and then dinner at In-in-Out in Sin City. An In-In-Out run!!!

well I kind of accept your offer. I will have a Mustang sports car rented from hertz. I have no issue with spanking the milage as its unlimited, and driving to Las Vegas, is an experience I have got to now add to the itinery - thanks for the idea. I would like to follow you out of LA, although there is a chance we might get seperated once we hit the open road. I am staying at the the Hilton Garden Inn at LAX. I am sure we can meet up somewhere before heading off - you have no ida how excited I am about this. Ill use priceline to find a bed for the night - i cant blow $100 this close to the start of my trip

I am so excited for you. Have you ever seen the desert? If not you will. It should be pretty quiet on a Saturday (the drive not Vegas).

Have a great time.

I am tempted to hop in the mustang and go with you, but I am already committed to bringing out the mini-van for shuttling people in Vegas.

Unlike your snazzy mustang, it will hold more than two comfortably

Yes, I too am glad I gave you the idea. Being from somewhere else, especially a whole other country, I didn't think you understood the concept that if you are in LA, that gives you the right to hop over to Vegas at will

just a short note to remind people I am looking for a copilot as I try and smash the land speed record on my way to LAS

Seriously, I will have the whole, Jimi Hendrix and Rolling Stones back catalogue (I assure you I am only 26) plus some other great tunes including Elvis, The Stereophonics, The Beatles, Oasis, and Primal Scream. Linkin Park and otherr american bands on request. Kareoke optional.

Maybe you will smash land speed records on the way up, but on the way home, especially if on Sunday, you may smash some land slowest speed records.

I have something that helps called Fastrak, why I am able to even think about coming home on Sunday. You may want to pick an off time to come home, like Monday mid-morning or night, after work traffic subsides.

Other than that, have at it! Let's keep in touch so we may, at least, meet up on the way for an In n' Out cheeseburger - another must for a visit to So Cal

I'll email you my cell phone no., so you may have it on hand, or remind me to give it to you on Fri nite at 777Brit's LAX dinner.

The in and out burger is a deal - i fell in love with the fries when i was in SFO a while ago. I have to fly on Sunday night to AKL, but the flight is not until 11.00 pm. Surely its easy to overtake on a desert freeway ?????

A whatta burger?

Jon - Entire Rolling stones catalog and the others, that must amount to about 200 CD's.

I hope you specified the car with a CD player or multichanger

Sorry I can't be there, My visit to LAX and LAS is in Nov.

Ha, ha, ha, ha ...

Oh, Jon, Jon, Jon ...

Ye of too much faith - it's not the "desert freeway" that will get you, it's all the cars coming back with you from their desert wknds that will do it - oftentimes enough to change a 4-hr ride into a 6-hr one.

And, its supposed to be gorgeous this wknd out in the desert - a mild 80 degrees ...

After the two-lane hwy, where you may be dead stopped, in the middle of the desert, stuck behind and in between not only cars, but belching 18-wheelers, I wonder how many cars you'll be sharing the clogged inland empire traffic lanes with, while I whiz by you in the Fastrak lane

Now, if you want the name of the Harley rental place - we're allowed to spilt traffic here - that would be the coolest

hmm. i only have a UK license, and there is no shared agreement on ponts. Heck I can use the worng lane with impunity - the fine will go no where especially as the expirey date is in 3 weeks

then again why start off the trip of a lifetime on the wrong side of the law

Richar I have an my laptop and a little radio transmitter that works on 88.1 FM in stereo - works great

Hey!! I also understand the concept, and took it to the max, by driving from Mexico to Vegas and back, in a day!
Alas, I'll have a few other things to be doing in LA this weekend.....

Oh, Jon, Jon, Jon ...

The police don't pull you over and ticket you if you don't have a Fastrak in your car - Fastrak is a private company.

The fine will go to the owner of the car as shown by the license plate which is recorded with a camera as you pass the Fastrak reader i.e. it will go to the rental car company who, and this is a matter of much debate, may in turn fine you, even doing so directly to your credit card.

I too would be interested on how this works, especially if you are from another country, don't know how things work here, and the rental car company doesn't advise you NOT to go in the Fastrak lanes with their cars. Maybe they have a special deal already in place with Fastrak?
