probably not. But *only* becasue Wednesday is not a normal travel day for me. I usually fly Mondays and Thursdays

Tally one more in the returning-from-SIN column. I have no problem traveling that day. In fact, I didnīt note the irony until well after I booked this run.

I won't fly that day. Mostly to put my family at ease, partially because I don't want to deal with insane hyped-up security that day (I flew LHR-ORD on the 1 year anniversary of Pan Am 103, and it was just ridiculous - I can imagine what ORD will be like on 9/11/02). </font>
Ditto works for me here. I was just cycling through potential vacation days (we go every year around our weedding anniversary 8/31) and 9/11/02 is WIDE open. I simply don't want to deal with the potential security challenges on that day, especially coming in from a foreign country. Also the calls from my mom and mother-in-law would be unbearable - just not worth the headache ... that is unless there is some crazy fare to SIN or something. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Not me, because as previously mentioned, it's a Wednesday.

As someone who works just a couple blocks from the Sears Tower, I'd much rather be on a plane that day than at work.

I have already requested the day off as I am planning a mileage run that day.

Thanks to OZstamps who recommended it, I, hubby and in-laws will be on a cruise somewhere in the Southern Caribbean on Sept 8th-15th .(Adventure of the Seas http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif )

DOC How is this related to community, which if I am NOT mistaken is supposed to be about postings of plans for get togethers of Flyertalkers.

IMHO I don't think this works in this forum.

FYI: for someone who had to LIVE though this tragic day I don't want to be reminded of this. It was one of the WORST days of my life, and people are worried about getting upgrades and stuff. Bad form IMHO http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Shouldn't this be POSTED IN TRAVEL BUZZ (Since I had a thread moved there which I thought worked in the forum I posted it in: Miles Buzz.)

I understand, CATMAN! I too lived it, as you know.

I made a judgement call, FWIW, that it go here, since I wondered how the collective FT community viewed it.

I do not necessarily want to be reminded of it either, but it's coming, ie the day 9/11, again in about two months.

IMHO, we need to remember, but also to get on, and to go on with our lives normally, as much as usual, as possible.

Personally, I have no plans, at least thusfar, to fly that particular day, but if so, I would have no real qualms about it.

And I'm so sorry to misplace and/or offend you or anyone by posting this here, but it was innocuous really, at least as I saw it! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Naturally, should the powers that be wish to move it elsewhere, for whatever reason, I defer to their wisdom! Thanks for commenting! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I plan to fly to Reagan, have a few drinks, and then fly back. I don't have a real reason to be in the city but felt this would be a good way to make a small statement. One man, one candle.

I don't know yet if I'll fly that day, but I certainly won't be in the U.S. It's not that I'm afraid of terrorists, rather I'm afraid of how the U.S. media will whip the population into a frenzy and I'd rather give the whole thing a pass. I'm going to be somewhere far away where I won't see any Americans or American media.

doc Jul 17, 2002 7:47 am

FWIW, I'm still undecided, or rather unaware thusfar, yet I too would not hesitate to fly on 9/11!

If it were free (or my portion would be taxes only), I'd probably think about flying, but to use their language in a different light, why be a martyr, or risk becoming one? No, thanks.

I do not have plans to travel. Folks travelling on UA or AA should be prepared for a good cry and subsequent toast in memory to all those who were lost!

LarryU Jul 17, 2002 9:35 am

I just booked a flight from JFK to PDX (via SFO) for mid August and deliberately scheduled the return to JFK on 9/11. I think my greatest fear that day will be avoiding the media, who are sure to be trolling the terminals for a story.
