SIN run pricing
I seem to have lost the SIN run thread...Did it go away?
Folks have told me that they bought UA tickets LAX-NRT-SIN for $400-$500, but when I try to price it I get $900.
OTOH, I'm thinking of just splurging on CX business class for $4400 in order to renew AA Platinum. Does anyone have pricing tips for me?
P.S., this is my first mileage run, so be gentle with me.

It's quite clearly posted over on the MR forum that UA has changed to stay rules on its SIN fares, and the cheapest now require a 6-day stay. Any shorter and you start getting the fares you are finding.

If you choose this route (and I whole heartedly recommend it
) it should be doable for much less than $4400-- try LAX-HKG-TPE. Even on cathayusa.com it's just over $3K and can be had for significantly less than that from a good TA or CXleverage.com.And CX offers some nice bonus miles as well.

Actually I plan to stay a couple of weeks and bounce around SE Asia. I assume I should get a low fare that way?

By ex-BKK I guess you mean buy the RTW from an agent in BKK and buy a one-way ticket from LAX to BKK. Isn't that pretty expensive on it's own? Or am I missing something?

O/w LAX-TPE (TPE is cheapest) can be had for $1200-$1400 in J on CX depending on how you buy it. The value of a RTW originating in TPE or BKK is undeniable, but depending on your travel pattern may or may not be appealing. To many, myself included, it's the best deal in air-travel, by far.
