Well, on Microsoft's Flight Sim yesterday, I did fly myself right into Lake Michigan. That program has some bugs, because according to the approach indicators at Meigs, I was right on the glide path, yet I ended up short of the runway.

**** that Bill Gates!

does it have to be 12 consecutive hours?

Is there still going to be a happy hour on Friday night? I've got my friend's wedding on Saturday so I can't come to Dave and Buster's.

mdtony Jun 5, 2002 2:10 pm

We are doing the following:

Happy hour on Friday, from say 7:00 PM until whenever
Dave and Busters on Saturday, from say 9:00 PM until they close
Phillips brunch on Sunday, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM

Hope that helps!

Hey Tony, what are your plans for transportation on Saturday? Assuming you're talking about the D&B in Bethesda, there's a metro stop right there, but doesn't the metro stop running about 1 on weekends? That would mean those staying out in Virginia would have to leave by about 12. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

The Metro is now open until 2 on weekends. If you leave at 1:15, you should be just fine.

If I leave at 1:15 I will be back in Crystal City at @ 2:10.

I guess the question is: do I really want to spend two hours on the Metro to play video games for four hours on a Saturday night? Hm...

I'm kind of in agreement. The whole reason I'm coming to WAS it to spend time with my FT friends.

Seems kinda unfair that we would pick a place that would force many of us to have to leave earlier than others due to transport out to the 'burbs.

I think the obvious answer is to start with dinner and drinks at D&B earlier than 9:00 PM. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Why so late ...

BTW, I might come up for this if US ESavers cooperate ...

techgirl Jun 6, 2002 8:44 am

I'm not trying to shoot holes here or anything, but I am coming to see my friends... I see this as a negative as:

1. if we are all off playing video games and not socializing, why am I coming to WAS to do this

AND

2. if we all have to watch our watches and leave before the bar closes, that goes against the whole flow of so many fun FT events I've been to where the party continues well into the wee hours of the morn

Is there parking at D&B in Bethesda?
I will have a car and am staying in Sheraton Tysons Corner, VA and will be happy to drive people back around there.

Theres a Hilton there too.

Yes

geo1004 Jun 6, 2002 9:03 am

Ahhhhhhh, yes. The classic Washington DC issue. There's a city, there's Virginia, and there's Maryland. There's a bunch of bridges, a river, some traffic and a Metro that's great if it goes where and when you need it. For folks coming in from out of town to IAD or DCA, trecking to Bethesda for D&B's may be a bit out of the way. Heck, for someone in VA it's out of the way...

Gotta admit that my one experince at D&B's was not a whole lot of fun... we spent a lot of time getting to Bethesda and then people played games. Sure, you can drink and/or eat but the place is not too conducive for socializing.

Now, Buffalo Billiards at the Dupont Circle metro stop... that's another story. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Beckles -

Thanks for the quick response.

From what I remember of Dave & Busters in Chicago (many years ago) it was also a bar/restaurant , so its not just video games. Is that correct?

Also, just went to website and got directions from/to Tysons Corner, Virginia.
20 minutes is not that out of the way.

Larry,

this D&B is in a mall, so parking is not an issue.

And yes, there is a restaurant/bar, as well as the video games and a faux casino. But if we are all in different rooms, that still does not solve the lack of socializing issue.

Meanwhile, geo's idea of a centrally located, Metro-accessible pool hall that serves food is brilliant. Plenty of socializing and two very important FT event requirements - stumbling distance to some of the hotels, cheap cab to others. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Also, Buffalo is around the corner from the Brickskeller, which has 800 different kinds of beer.
