Since I live only 40 miles from DC, I guess I better drag my sorry arse to the DeeCeeDoo.

The Smithsonian Folklore Festival is always the last week of June and the first week of July. Free. Not that this would interest anyone, I just thought I'd throw that in. I probably will come out to DC in June sometime for two days (Monday & Tuesday) maybe the 24 & 25. Can't plan that far ahead.

The last half of the month would be best for me, but I could probably attend at least some events on any weekend in June.
And while I haven't ever attended one of these things and won't know what I'm doing (no change there, really,) I'm also available to pitch in and help with the organizing and logistics.

Looking at the responses so far, it's looking like most people like the weekend of the 28th to the 30th, so that's what I'm going to go with. Markbach and SFOJFK, I'll be dropping you guys an e-mail and we can try to figure out what to do. But my idea is to do a happy hour on Friday, dinner on Saturday, and brunch on Sunday.
I'd like to do something on Saturday afternoon, and I'd love some feedback on what you folks would like to do.

Let me help in making this a little more interesting too. Maybe we could organize a group lunch and tour at the World Bank as well. (tour is free but sorry, no such thing as a free lunch!) Not guaranteed I will always be here (darn consultant contracts) but with a list of names, we could arrange visitor passes.
Other activities could also include:
monument tours (for those who visit from outside)
Dinner cruise on Potomac or afternoon brunch at Sequioa in Georgetown.
Just my 2 thoughts worth.

Sorry, it would have be Monday - Friday during business hours. Other activities though could be over the weekend.

Since I live nearby. I want to join. Maybe even help. Only available last part of the month. May I suggest a visit to Goddard Space Center, if possible? Often they open on weekends for tours.
For those who are available during the week.: meet your COngressman? For that you need an appointment.

Although this may not be as popular as Goldlust's "list", but add me too! June looks pretty open for me at the moment, so e-mail with the particulars when you set it up.

It looks like two of my sorority sisters are game for joining us for at least some of the FT events that weekend... I'm looking forward to it.
Time to decide now whether to stay at the Marriott (which is our official convention hotel) in the room block.
All things equal, I think I'm going to do my usual reservation at the Capitol Hilton and then look at switching to a Free Friday/Saturday with Starwood if that works out better.

i need to drop by this forum more often... i missed two things close to me this weekend!
i will check fares for this... i have friends in DC (and i'm very political, so i just love the town in general).
any recommendations for a 'cheap' hotel... i am a recent college grad and have been traveling too much (read: i'm poor!).
