MSP- Sometime this summer?

I've yet to see an MSP FT event. So here goes a proposition....

Let's have a FT weekend in MSP this summer, while people might actually want to come here.

Anyone agree/ want to help?

My calendar for summer is almost completely jammed now - I've got FIVE weekends already marked for FT do's.

That said, if it happened to be the weekend of 8/10 to 8/12, I will already be in town speaking at a conference and I would attend.

My summer is already quite booked also but I will be in Blaine from July 11-20 for the USA Cup and if an event takes place during that time for sure I will sneak away from one of my hobbies (soccer refereeing) to participate with others from another of my hobbies (FT)

TG, what are the five do's? Are there some Private Do's? I only know of the following this summer that are actually looking like set in stone Do's:

DCA
YYZ
SEA

note: I didn't count ORD b/c I didn't think that was a summer do.. plus its still way too cold to be summer yet

I'm counting ORD, DCA, LGB, YYZ (or PDX which seems to have been mentioned as a repeat of last year but the YYZ do got posted before anything was formalized), and SEA.

Perhaps a BBQ on one of those nice long summer evenings?

I'll be grilling kanebear's steaks, presuming the WAT thread in OMNI crosses the 2000 post mark by midnight.

I figure a nice BBQ. Maybe a boat trip out on Lake Minnetonka or the St. Croix River. Maybe some fishing (I need to learn how). A tour of the big Mall. A Twins game indoors.

I'm game for being chief organizer.....

Hmm... let me think aloud......

Since there may be non-MSPers there, I wonder if we can do something that #1. showcases Mpls. (other than the MOA), and #2, is accessible in case people don't have transportation. I'm thinking maybe something near downtown Mpls, or toward the airport........ Lake Nokomis/Lake Calhoun/Lake Harriet or Minnehaha Falls?? a cookout by the lake? Maybe something with a transportation angle: Lake Harriet streetcar? Minnehaha Park light rail line? (not much to see now...) Or.... maybe downtown Mpls by the river, although MN isn't land of 10,000 rivers...... :P

Loring Park/Sculpture Garden?? It's walking distance to the Hyatt, Hilton, etc.

Just some thoughts... and BoSoxFan, thanks for stepping up to help!

Not necessarily, but....

Perhaps a jam at Paisley Park could be arranged. Never for certain, but possible. Maybe the man himself will step onstage.

Um... that is the weekend of the SEA Do!

(While sometimes we do get a teensy bit of overlap with smaller FT events on different continents, I would say that you might want to pick a different weekend....)

Right now, weekends I show "taken" by Do's already are: 5/31-6/2, 6/28-6/30, 7/6, 7/26-7/28, and 8/16-8/18.

The "free", non-holiday weekends for July and August look to be 7/12-14, 7/19-21, 8/3-4, 8/10-11, and 8/24-25.

A person could go broke if they were to attend all these dos.. lets go for a record and have one each weekend.. I'm not sure "Free" weekend was the right term LOL
