Unfortunately, I got only as far as the I-30/I-35 "Mixmaster", and turned back once I saw a sand truck, a semi, and some cars get stuck and in accidents.
Sports cars and ice definitely do NOT mix.
So, I'll have to meet you all next time. I'll be having rotisserie chicken with BBQ sauce and sourdough bread at home.

Hey it was nice to meet everybody. Sorry I had to "fly" so soon. I'm now eating Amy's Ice Cream and hanging out in the AUS AC where one should be on Texas Independence Day! Now it's AUS->ORD->LHR->HAJ for me!

Our FlyerTalk Texas Independence Day lunch was great, and I want to thank all the FT'ers who braved the elements to attend!
Chemist661, Hauteboy & future Mrs. Hauteboy, paradocs, Comet, Starwood Lurker & Mrs. Starwood Lurker and my wife and I, all made for an excellent crowd with wide-ranging interests and knowledge. Studley, we perfectly well understand why you could not make it down from Dallas, as the weather even down here was sub-freezing this morning.
The Salt Lick BBQ was excellent (no surprise there!) and there were plenty of handouts for everyone to carry home.
Thanks to everyone for the good fun and good conversation!

What a nice time we had! It was terrific to meet each of you! BBQ was delicious too!
No wild flowers to be seen anywhere on my drive.
Thanks Middle_Seat and Lurker for the extra efforts you made to insure the success of our gathering. The party favors are great!
Let's get something going for a meeting in San Antonio next time.

The BBQ was great! The company was even better! Talked about a wide variety of topics including the fun of seeing new places & accumulating miles for cheap! Enjoyed meeting Starwood Lurker. Saw another Austin friend today. He told me I hadn't changed, always looking for travel bargains! Getting better at that because being well informed from FT. Yes, I would enjoy another meeting in SAT/AUS! Will publish mini trip report after I land in CA.

*Sigh* I was so ready for this, then the weather problems.
Chemist, you and I are jinxed. Last Saturday LAX, now AUS!
I had more handouts, and a few surprises. Hopefully next time. Maybe if there's a SAT gathering, another trip to The Salt Lick would be in order?
*BRAINSTORM*
Since Texas has so many attractions and restaurants like this, how about a "Taste of Texas" type gathering? It could be held over the course of a month. One weekend in DFW, one SAT/AUS, and one in HOU.
Think about it: Maybe a trip to the Dr Pepper plant in Dublin....The Salt Lick....C.R. Smith Museum....
Enough flight possibilities for everyone!
What do you think?

Thanks to everyone who was able to make it. Mrs. Starwood Lurker and myself really enjoyed spending the afternoon with everyone.
Sounds like a neat idea, studley. Maybe if I can't make every one, Jae could pick up the slack. We would have to try and juggle time off and such, but I'd be willing to try.
