MileageAddict is very sad now. I'm going to turn off the TV and have a beer. Next April, I will turn the TV back on for the new Mariner's season.

Until then...I would usually root for the AL team in the World Series but.....ugh...it's the..(bile churning in my stomach) ... Yankees...GO DIAMONDBACKS!!!!!!! Sweep those NY bums!

To MileageAddict, missydarlin, and all you diehard Mariners fans, my sympathies! Go D'Backs!

Congratulations Yankee fans!

As a die hard Mariners fan who attended most of the playoff games, it would normally be too great a pain to give kudos to the hated Yankees. But this year is different. Just watching the sheer enjoyment of the fans in Yankee Stadium makes me realize maybe some things are meant to be. Given all the incredible hurt that many in NYC have personally experienced, it warmed my heart to see many of them so happy. Now go complete the job and beat the Diamondbacks.

As I said on chat last night, there is no doubt in my mind that MLB has determined, in light of recent events, that the Yankees MUST not only be in, but win in dramatic fashion, the World Series 'for the good of the game and to help heal our nation'.

So fret not, Missy my dear et.al. The M's never had a chance...

ILuvParis Oct 23, 2001 8:22 am

As we Cub fans have said for all of our lives, "Wait 'til next year!"

TrojanHorse Oct 23, 2001 8:25 am

This was not even remotely "dramatic" in the way they won. last night was a blowout from the start and the series was done in Five...

If they truly wanted dramatic they would have also put Atlanta in as the NL rep to bring more interest to the WS.

Go Dodgers!!!! 2002

My two favorite teams are the RedSox and whoever is playing the Yankees...

My dear chexfan........Grrr.

My dear mileage, Maybe I'll just delete your website from my favorite places. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Missy, my love. Don't sweat it. Your team did great all season long. They would have beaten any other team. That's a fact. But there is something about the Yankees and post season. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif As my friends in Texas say, or shall or paraphrase it, "Don't mess with the Yankees."

Dan dahling,

I can't send salmon until I have an address....

Maybe you would prefer some of the halibut stash from my summer fishing adventure?

Mariners CEO Howard Lincoln said that the Mariners "have become second only to the" Yankees in gross revenues for '01, according to Art Thiel of the SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER, who reports the Mariners will be profitable again this year — making about $5M more than their $9.6M net of last year. Lincoln said the team, as a top-six club in revenues, paid $15-20M into the revenue-sharing pool distributed to the six lowest-revenue clubs. When asked if he would contribute more to the pool "as part of a bigger solution" if asked by MLB to do so, Lincoln said he would, "as long as we weren't the only ones doing it" (SEATTLE P-I, 12/4). Lincoln: "We have to operate at a profit and we have to make decisions with that in mind" (SEATTLE TIMES, 12/4).
