Following yesterday's report about the Mariners' "ticket scalping operation run off its Web site," a SEATTLE TIMES editorial states the team "ought to get out of this shady business." Though team attorneys "tailored the site to comply" with city anti-scalping laws, the Mariners "are splitting wispy-fine legal hairs." Legality is one issue, "but is it the right thing to do? The answer flows like a melting glacier rocketing down Mount Rainier: No. The Mariners are the first to complain to police about the ticket scalpers outside the ballpark. For them to turn around and sanction the sale of tickets above the printed price on the Internet — while taking a cut of the transaction — is hypocritical" (SEATTLE TIMES, 8/16).

Missydarlin, the long-awaited Mariners-Yankees weekend series in New York is upon us. Let's look forward to some great baseball between the teams with the two best records in the Major Leagues.

Missydarlin, the Yankees provided some tension in the eighth and ninth innings, but the Mariners were the better team. Our favorite clubs do battle again this afternoon. Why does this feel like playoff atmosphere? I might have to book myself to SEA in October!

Ouch! 10-2. I must admit the Mariners are fabulous. I'm ordering take-out humble pie tonight, Missydarlin. Well, our bet required a series sweep to pay off. Double or nothing in October?

Nice try 0524, but the bet was......

The apple (a Vermont Mac, of course), the pretzel and the mustard will be on the way as soon as I can figure out a non-messy way to package them!

SEA THEM PLAY: In Seattle, Romero & Sherwin report last night's attendance for the Rangers-Mariners game at Safeco Field drew 45,036, which marked the 30th consecutive sellout and 40th overall this season. The Mariners have now drawn 2,553,121 fans this season in 60 home games, which gives the Mariners the highest per-game attendance in MLB (SEATTLE TIMES, 8/22). Also in Seattle, Dave Andriesen reports Monday's Tigers-Mariners game drew 45,972, a Safeco Field regular-season record (SEATTLE P-I, 8/21).

Well, you have to admit... it's a pretty cool place to see a game.

In Seattle, Laura Vecsey reports that if the Mariners continue to record sellouts at Safeco Field for their remaining 20 home games, they will draw upward of 3.4 million fans, breaking the team record of almost 3.2 million, set in '97 (SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER, 8/23)

Couldn't get a seat out in SEA when I was there so going to watch them this Saturday @ Baltimore Orioles. Any fans here for the game or roving FTers in DC during Labor Day weekend wish to meet up?
