I guess their broadcast and their website use different prediction methods. Oh well, I guess it is back to shorts. Dan, I will not cause any trouble...just as long as we get to stop and have a cold one from time to time.

Now the Weather.com website is predicting showers for Saturday and showers and snow for Sunday. Rain and snow cannot stop the Dan Hammer mobile on Saturday...Brooklyn here we come!

My Thursday arrival at EWR, flying down from Dulles, looks like it might be challenging. Just watched the CBS 2 news from NYC that is forecasting heavy rains on Wednesday night and Thursday. Also found the following:
Severe Weather Alert
BULLETIN - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED FLOOD WATCH NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY 345 PM EST TUE MAR 20 2001

...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WATCH FOR SMALL STREAMS AND URBAN AREAS IN NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY SOUTHEAST NEW YORK AND SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT FOR WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY...

A LOW PRESSURE CENTER OVER GEORGIA WILL INTENSIFY AS IT MOVES SLOWLY UP THE EAST COAST...REACHING THE NORTH CAROLINA/VIRGINIA BORDER BY LATE WEDNESDAY. IT WILL THEN DRIFT NORTHEAST OVER THE COASTAL WATERS PASSING SOUTH THEN EAST OF LONG ISLAND BY THURSDAY EVENING.

RAIN ASSOCIATED WITH THIS DEVELOPING NOREASTER WILL REACH OUR AREA WEDNESDAY MORNING. THE MOST SIGNIFICANT RAIN IS EXPECTED TO FALL ACROSS OUR REGION WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY THURSDAY. ALL THIS RAIN IS THEN EXPECTED TO TAPER OFF TO SCATTERED SHOWERS THURSDAY NIGHT.

RAINFALL AMOUNTS COULD TOTAL NEAR 1 1/2 INCHES WITH SOME LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS OF 2 INCHES IN THOSE FAVORABLY UPSLOPE AREAS. 1 TO 1 1/2 INCHES OF RAIN WILL CAUSE SIGNIFICANT WITHIN BANK RISES ON MANY OF THE RIVERS AND STREAMS WITHIN THE BROOKHAVEN HYDROLOGIC SERVICE AREA.

CURRENT FLASH FLOOD GUIDANCE FOR SMALL STREAMS AND TRIBUTARIES INDICATES THAT 2 INCHES OF RAIN WILL CAUSE SMALL STREAM FLOODING IN THE HYDROLOGIC SERVICE AREA.

THE HEAVIEST RAIN EXPECTED TO FALL OVERNIGHT WEDNESDAY INTO EARLY THURSDAY MORNING WILL MAKE THE RUSH HOUR A MESS. FLOODING OF ROADWAYS AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS IS LIKELY.

A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT FLOODING OF SMALL STREAMS...CREEKS AND OTHER DRAINAGE AREAS IS POSSIBLE WITHIN THE WATCH AREA. PEOPLE IN THE WATCH AREA SHOULD KEEP AN EYE ON THE WEATHER AND BE PREPARED FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION SHOULD HEAVY RAINS AND FLOODING OCCUR OR A FLOOD WARNING BE ISSUED. BE AWARE OF THE POSSIBILITY FOR HEAVY RAINFALL... AVOID LOW LYING AREAS...AND BE CAREFUL WHEN APPROACHING HIGHWAY DIPS AND UNDERPASSES.

CHECK YOUR PREPAREDNESS REQUIREMENTS AND BE READY TO ACT IMMEDIATELY IF FLOODING IS OBSERVED OR A FLOOD WARNING IS ISSUED.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO...YOUR LOCAL RADIO OR TELEVISION STATIONS...OR YOUR CABLE TELEVISION OUTLET FOR FURTHER DETAILS OR UPDATES. ADDITIONAL WEATHER INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND ON THE INTERNET AT WWW.NWS.NOAA.GOV/ER/OKX.

newself,

That drink may be a hot one instead. Maybe you should bring gloves too.
I really pity our Hawaiian friend.

Just looked at some flights from Dulles into Newark for today (Wed) and many have been cancelled.

From the FAA site:
----
Due to WIND/LOW CEILINGS, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving Newark International Airport (EWR). This is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 3 hours and 30 minutes with some arriving flights receiving as much as 6 hourDue to WIND/LOW CEILINGS, departure traffic destined to New York City's Laguardia Airport (LGA) is currently experiencing delays averaging 5 hours and 3 minutes, with some flights receiving as much as 9 hours and 29 minutes delay.
---

I'd hate to be the person delayed 9 hours and 29 minutes today.

Actually, I asked Catman the same question last week. He said "Dressy Casual" for all the events. I plan on wearing a polo shirt and khahkis to Cite.

I received this email from Catman last night.

HI James/Applefan! thanks for writing.

I have unregistered from Flyertalk so I can't post anymore. But to
answer your question:

The dress code is dressy casual. No flip flops and tee shirts are not
recommended. It's a nice, classy restaurant but you don't have to come
in formal wear.

If you can James, could you post this on F-T and say you talked to me
and this is what the restaurant told me.

Looking forward to meeting you this weekend.

CATMAN

My welcome to NYC was rain and more rain. It's in the 40's at night. However, nothing stands between me and shopping so I bundled up in a cashmere sweater, pants (definitely not a skirt) wool coat, scarf, gloves and an umbrella and ventured out. Brrr....

I've got the model UN happening at my hotel (Hilton Rockefeller Cntr) and Bill Clinton is coming to talk this weekend. Luckily, the Executive lounge is very warm here.
