New uses for FlyerTalk
I may not have many posts, but I have been lurking for over a year now. I have received a lot of valuable tips on getting the most out of my Frequent Traveler Mileage. However, it seems that ever since they started tracking posts, the rift between newcomers and old timers is widening and the content of this board has shifted away from the thoughtful insight of seasoned road warriors into the mindless kindergarden babble one would find on an America Online chat room, or some other medium geared towards the mindless masses. The constant '..... slap antics' make me wonder if Jerry Springer somehow took over this board.
I long for the time I can come to this site and easily obtain Travel related insight without having to sift through the trash. However, last week I put my hotel and airline miles to good use and returned to my college for a football game to have some fun with some old frat brothers. It turns out, some of them also were lurkers of this very board.
Together we came up with a Flyer Talk drinking game to re-live the old days. The rules are as follows.
Everyone picks a flyer talker (preferably evangelist level or above)and start at the first board and try to get through as many as possible. Whenever your flyer talker does one of the following, drink specified amount.
Every time oz brings up a link to a previous post not related to Frequent travel - 1 DRINK
Every time Camera Man engages oz - 1 DRINK
Everytime Catman uses the word cat, claw or cop - 1 DRINK
Everytime catman threatens to quit - 1 DRINK
Everytime oz threatens to out someone - 1 DRINK
Everytime a newbie is told to use the search- EVERYONE DRINK ONE
Everytime an old timer asks the same type of redundant question that thas already been answered and all the old timers bow down with an in depth answer - EVERYONE DRINK ONE
Everytime someone kisses up to catman after he cries - EVERYONE DRINK ONE
Everytime a useful piece of frequent flyer advice is offered - EVERYONE DRINK 5 (this is not a very common event these days)
And many more...I'm sure that enough players could be found if necessary

Posts have been tracked since day 1.
The only thing that has changed is the member designations.
In the begining, it was just Jr. member and member. I think the cutover was at 25 posts.
I judging by the actions of my friend PremEx, such a system would only encourage people

If one were awarded drinks just for pickin' on doc then there would currently be no "Evangelists" in existence for all would have long ago perished in a state of drunken revelry, probably due to cirrhossis or pancreatitis!

Bjoe, ROFL!
Thanks for the laugh! I got my car stolen this morning, and the creep got caught two miles down the road. He threw a 100 ft. electrical extension cord I had on the front seat out of the car, and the plug got caught while he was driving away. He dragged this cord unknowingly, and the sheriff stopped him at 4:30 am. I picked up my car at the impound an hour ago, looked at the mess, decided to check FT, and your post was the first read.
Make mine a mimosa minus the OJ!

Careful doc -- you're both an "old-timer" on these boards and male. You might be one of those dastardly "old boys club" -- you know -- the ones that built FT so it could be a home to all, even those we particularly don't like...
And welcome back from your travels too...
bjoe -- welcome to the dark side of FT (posting rather than lurking) and thank you for the laugh.
Ling --
-- glad you're ok.

BJOE ... so you are saying CATMAN is the cause of 50% of the drinking problems of F.T. visitors.

"Everytime someone kisses up to catman after he cries - EVERYONE DRINK ONE".
Great post. Plenty around here take themselves WAY too seriously, and in doing so provide little if any info for the average board user. Personally I do not mind who posts - it it earns me some miles or an upgrade I will thankfully listen and learn.

I think there should be one drink for every post that says "please let this be the last post on this topic".
And one drink for every time it doesn't work. (It never works).
