Phoenix over Xmas
I will be in Phoenix staying at one of the Hilton Pointe Resorts the week between Xmas and New Years.
Can anyone suggest any daytrips or other interesting things to do besides the golf that I hope to do.
Thanks

Which Pointe Hilton Resort?
As for things to see/do, the following are my favorite places:
- Phoenix Art Museum (small, but well-run)
http://www.phxart.org
- Heard Museum (Southwestern/Native)
http://www.heard.org
- Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West
http://www.taliesin.com/
- Red Rocks/artisan communities of Sedona and Jerome
http://www.azjerome.com
http://www.city.sedona.net
- Desert Botanical Gardens
http://www.dbg.org
- Arizona State University cultural events
http://www.asu.edu/cfa
Restaurants
- Trick's Restaurant (fabulous atmosphere, great wine list, even better food)
"A charming 1920s cottage and outdoor patio nestled among the trees. 'New American' menus take advantage of the freshness of the season."
- Tomaso's (great Italian food)
- Four Peaks Brewing Company
http://www.fourpeaks.com/
- can deliver more suggestions if you'd like. Just let me know what you're looking for!

Sounds like an FT get together.
I will also be in the "valley" from December 22 through the 27th. I realize that it is around the holiday, but I would love to see if we can put together a dinner or something sometime during that period. I will put in my vote for Oregano's right now. I think that we would have to see if a place like that (which does not take reservations) would set aside an area for a group of more than a few. Fortunately, there are three in the area. If not, how about the Old Town Torilla Factory? Tricks, in Tempe is another good suggestion. I could go on and on.
Let's see if there is any interest and then move on from there, but definitely, count me in. I would love to meet some FTers.

If there's a get-together, I'm game. I should be here. Tricks is supposed to be good (every time we've gone there, we've changed our mind as we walked in), so is Oregano's, but it's hard to beat Pizzeria Bianco in downtown Phoenix.
I'd be willing do some coordinating for such a gathering, if there continues to be more interest.

If you are around for New Years Eve, you really might consider spending it at Tombstone Arizona, at Big Nose Kate's Saloon .. did that a couple years ago .. WHAT a hoot! Spent Chrtsitas Day that year at atop Macchu Picchu Peru, at the little hotel right on top at the ruins:
Did a client report on both here:

motnot, Pizzeria Bianco is great as well, but they do not take reservations last I heard either. That could be especially dicey if either the Coyotes or Suns are home that evening, which is pretty likely, given that time of year. Tempe may not be a bad area a get together, particularly with many students leaving the area for the holiday.
A little bit of OMNI for anyone in the valley area: How is the Rio Salado Project coming? Is there any retail development on the waterfront yet? I have not been back for about six months.

Rio Salado Project? The only Rio Salado Project I know of was the one that was to include a new football stadium for the Cardinals. It never got off the ground; voters shot it down. Is that what you meant, or something else?

I am sorry motnot; I am aware of the aforementioned Rio Salado Project
.
What I meant was the Riverfront development on the Salt River in North Tempe (From the Karsten Course to just above the Mill Avenue Bridge).

Oh. Nothing there, as far as I know. Building a huge project right on Mill though, almost a small mall with lofts above it, I think.
Anyone else with interest in meeting up in PHX, speak up (though there's plenty of time to do so)!

I know that this is kind of far in the future, but there is no reason to not get the ball rolling.
How is the day after Christmas, the 26th? I imagine that is probably better than the day before. I will only be in the valley until the 27th, and I would really like to take part in this. If this day is okay, please let me know, so we can move on from there.
Also, where should it be? Probably a middle of the road course (I know that it is going to be peak season) that will take advanced tee times. Perhaps the Karsten Course at ASU. It has a good proximate location, is not ridiculously expensive, and depending on what tee you play from, can be a very good challenge. I am just throwing a course out; so I would love to read other suggestions.
I would be more than happy to do what I can to help coordinate it (from a distance), so please let me know.
