I think this would be a wonderful way for me to discover NYC!

Gaucho100K Sep 27, 2000 7:15 am

Catman... is this an open event or is it by invitation only...?

If we're looking for March, could I request March 3-4-5 or March 17-18-19? That middle week will be Caitlin's birthday party.

Selfish, I know. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Great news! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Waiting for the added details so as to block off the event days! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

BTW- West Bank sounds fine to me. It would be a first for me. If you're open to suggestions, you might also consider Cite!

This New Yorker will be happy to attend and meet some of you.

<<<will be happy to be a personal tour guide. Anyone up for Coney Island in Brooklyn? We can get some Nathan's hotdogs. Then stop in to ANY bakery for some really good cake.
FYI Coney Island is about 20 minutes away from JFK. Sometimes, depending on the flight approach, you can see the beach out the left hand side of the plane. That's the Carnarsie approach. My favorite. I can see my old house. Ahhhhh

Now if only I could make it to 50,000 with UA.

Catman: Don't forgot about possibly having one of the events in downtown Newark! (I hope, I hope!) We will be in the midst of The Sopranos third season when the "trois" rolls around.

shadow Sep 27, 2000 3:24 pm

Since I had business conflicts for the first 2, I will definitely try to make this one!!!

Catman Sep 27, 2000 4:50 pm

Two more things about the C-D Trois:

*There's NO RUSH for picking a date. I just want a general idea where most interest is.

*Just an advisory that the Saturday dinner (and depending on turnout for Friday's thing) WILL BE PRE-PAID!!! If you want to attend, you will have to pre-pay! I promise to have a restaurant for Saturday selected early and prices provided. THERE WILL BE NO DINNER LOTTERY LIKE LAST YEAR. THIS WAY EVERYONE SHOWS UP AND THERE IS NO CREDIT CARD CHAOS AT THE END OF DINNER!

OK? Again, questions or suggestions please e-mail me.

Thanks and six months to the TROIS! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

ANd Randy, I hope you can come as well! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

dsimon Sep 27, 2000 5:33 pm

Catman, please count me in. This is so far in the future, that any of those dates are good for me.

I also like the idea of diversity by having part of the event in Newark for some good Spanish/Portuguese food. This way, the "alley cats" can represent with some pride.

Please keep us posted.

Shareholder Sep 27, 2000 5:41 pm

16th/17th of March would be best with me and it is also St.Patrick's Day weekend which should be a blast in the NYC/NJ region [McSORLEY's here we come!]. Second best for me would be the 24th/25th of March or even the 31st/1st of April.

Like dgolds, I would be curious to see more of Newark, having now been exposed to 8 episodes of THE SAPRANOS. The rest of the first and second series will be unreeling each night a 10 through this week and next on our CTV television. (That's on free TV up here.)

Back to the purpose of this posting: My calendar for 20001 indicates that Easter is on the 15th of April, but Passover and Palm Sunday are on the 8th. Any later in April is not really good for me, as I am off to South Africa on the 25th and couldn't justify the weekend of the 20th. Won't be back until mid-May. (BA First all the way...oh joy!)

Gaucho100K, as far as I am led to believe, any FlyerTalker in good standing who asks politely will likely get an invite from Catman. And particularly someone who can appreciate the finer aspects of a perfectly cooked, fork tender pound of beef. I would certainly think Catman would want to compare notes with you, based on our own "conversation" a few weeks ago about the finer things Buenos Aires has to offer in this regard. But if you do come, you must bring me a box of Havannas: no Catman, not the ones you and Cigarman savor, but Alfajores! If you've ever had one, you wouldn't have to ask about the difference. (But let's just say they are Argentina's answer to Krispy Kremes.)

Any date is fine for Sondra and I. We'll be there.

markbach Sep 27, 2000 5:59 pm

3/16-18 or the last 2 weekends in April are my 1st choice, 3/24 and 3/31 are my 2nd choices.

How about a Saturday Matinee Broadway show?

violist Sep 27, 2000 7:52 pm

I'd be interested - probably Mar 9-11 would be my first, second, only choices, owing to concert schedules and stuff.

Catman,
Whatever weekend that you pick is ok for me.

QuietLion Sep 27, 2000 10:32 pm

Easter is April 15 next year, and Passover starts the weekend before so you're safe.

Indurain Sep 28, 2000 12:21 am

Catman, I'm definitely in! Please put me on your definite list and the email list for the DO!

As for dates, my choice is any weekend EXCEPT March 2-4th. I will be running in the LA Marathon on March 4th.

Shareholder, it looks like we share some common interests (both Argentine & Cuban Havanas). As much as I love both, Im not sure I could mix a Monty No. 2 or a Sancho Panza Belicoso & a Chocolate Alfajor, though http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif. However, a pound (or two) of beef, a nice full-bodied red and a good smoke (preferably a cuban torpedo) is right up my alley.

Let me see how the logistics work, but I will do my best to make the gathering & to bring along a few boxes of Alfajores for all present to sample. (you can take home whatever -if anything- is left over http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif)

PS: I also have to figure out a way to get my cubans past US customs. Perhaps this is a job for Gaucho007... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Sounds like a blast. The only weekends I cannot do are the first two of the baseball season (live drafts in my other major hobby, fantasy baseball!), and Greek Orthodox Easter weekend which this year is the weekend after Western Easter.

Rudi Sep 28, 2000 4:16 am

US costums told me several times (I always bring a case of 49 original Cuban cigars with me), last time on sep-6-2000 in SFO, that they TOLERATE my import of a max of 50 CUBAN cigars as long as they are for my personal consumption (of a non-US-citizen) and trust in me reexporting the non-consumed ones afterwards.

GK Sep 28, 2000 5:18 am

I'm in - just let me know which weekend it's going to be in advance for me to book a VS reward ticket. Steak, Red Wine ... yum takes me back to BA right now. Maybe I should just go get a lite snack for lunch today...

geo1004 Sep 28, 2000 7:50 am

March 16-18th = first choice

AnnaS Sep 28, 2000 8:27 am

Will do my best to make this since I've made the other NYC gatherings.

So far, probably any of the April weekends since until 3/17 I will be out of the country and I'll need some time to recuperate! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Rudi-- a few questions about your cubans, since your strategy seems to work: Do you always declare them upon entry to the US or do you wait to get questioned...? Also, when declaring, do you state their origin or do you just specify "cigars"...?

Cheers,

Catman, at this point the mid to late March or April dates work best for me.

Vulcan Sep 28, 2000 3:29 pm

Randy should be setting the date for the Freddie Ceremony in NYC soon. It is usually on a Monday. It would be great to schedule this function for the same weekend.

MileKing Sep 28, 2000 3:41 pm

Catman's weekend and no Ruths Chris???

I may be able to make it Catman, but won't be able to give you choice dates til later this month.

Do you always declare them upon entry to the US or do you wait to get questioned...? Also, when declaring, do you state their origin or do you just specify "cigars"...? I declared them once - 2 (?) years ago at IAD (I don't think I have to declare them as long as it is less than 50 pieces). And I have been searched once (SFO). Both times the costumer officer noticed that 'they' were cubans - and both times he did let them in when I answered thruthfully that they are for my own consumption (they never digged deeper by asking if 'all of the cigars were for my own consumption ...) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Say Catman,

Maybe I have my priorities mixed up but.....

I know everyone likes the idea of getting miles for travel....

but..........

since I'm a New Yorker my main concern is...

THE RESTAURANT!

Which one and where?

That's ok by me.

The times:
March 9-11th
March 16-18th

would work best for me... although I may flock south for spring break http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif --- please understand that I haven't ruled CATMAN DO TROIS, but it's a toss-up between someplace that traditional spring breakers go or CATMAN DO TROIS.

Perhaps this is a bit juvenile, but perhaps any interested attendees of CATMAN DO TROIS would consider attending a taping of The Late Show or Late Night With Conan 'O Brian [I would suggest SNL, but there are plans for Saturday night, and from what I've heard, obtaining SNL tickets is a difficult task] If those options seem too juvenile for attendees of CATMAN DO TROIS, then perhaps there may be some interest in seeing a Broadway or Off-Broadway show.

OMNI: Catman, perhaps you could showcase some of your feline friends on Letterman for "Stupid Pet Tricks". [don't take that with offense, most of the Pets on Letterman's "Stupid Pet Tricks" are quite talented]

I don't like COLD so the later the date the better. The May weekend is nice, but it looks like nobody is leaning that way. I agree that St. Pat's would be nice; haven't been to NYC for that in years and years. Just give us the dates ASAP so those of us that can make commitments that far out have the opportunity to do so. If it is in April I may be able to wiggle an umpiring assignment out of someone so I can write off the trip!!!

catman count me in any weekend would be fine except easter and passover weekends
