Toronto Nov 9-12 Itenerary ideas?

My husband and I will be traveling to Toronto in Nov. and would like some info on best hotel, dining, and sights we must see while there. If I recall correctly I think it was Punki who mentioned a hotel with the best view of the falls but can't remember the name of it; any help would be greatly appreciated. Also can someone please advise on climate conditions this time of year (Nov) so that we may be better prepared.

(Punki if it was you who was discussing a trip to Canada and made mention of this hotel please help, or anyone who knows of it)

Thanks to all of you in advance for your help
and I hope to return the favor sometime

Best Hotels
- Royal York (well-known landmark hotel in Toronto, a member of the Fairmont/Canadian Pacific group)
- Park Hyatt (fashionable hotel in the fashionable Bloor-Yorkville neighborhood)
- Hotel Inter-Continental (also in Bloor)

Best Restaurants
- The "Senator Steakhouse" (see Catman's Red Green trip report)

Best Sights
- Royal Ontario Museum (fabulous museum with Canadian history, art, Oriental history, natural history, and much more)
- Spadina (excellent preservation of this home from the middle 1800s. across the street from more famous Casa Loma, which is not at all well preserved)
- Fort York (US troops torched the place in the War of 1812, the Brits torched the White House. Ft York was rebuilt shortly there after and is preserved as a historic sight today)
- SkyDome/Air Canada Centre (if you're into sports)
- Theatre District (if you're into the performing arts)

This trip report of our recent second annual Toronto/Red Green Show weekend should give you some ideas on things to see and do and places to stay and places to dine
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum81/HTML/001204.html

IN summary:

*Go to Verona's for great NOrthern Italian.

*The Senator Steakehouse is [/b] NOT [/b] A steakhouse anymore but a bistro. Nice place but if you must have steak search around. There's even a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse if you desire that.

*Check out the MOOSE exhibits (in the vein of the Cows on Parade in Switzerland and Chicago and NYC.) We even found the Flyeratlk moose in front of the Marriott!

*If you go to Eaton Centre for shopping do not go thru the undersround entrances. The store is now closed so you have to naviagate all over the place to get to the main mall.

*There's a nice little church in the shadow of the Marriott Eaton Center, and a fun Maze to spend soem time walking and contimplating.

SO read through and i"m sure other Flyertalkers will have tips.

FYI: I believe the "Falls" are some distance from Toronto. It's worht a trip if you have time.

I liked CNTower. I've been up a lot of towers and CNTower, with the little pod up near the top, is still the best.

Eaton Center and that whole area is a good place to shop and walk around.

Very enjoyable city. Have a good time. Niagara Falls is about an hour (???) from Toronto. You can sometimes see it from the top of CNTower, but that doesn't really work very well. It's worth the drive if you've never been. If you do go, the Marriott Niagara Falls is a great hotel. Right next to the falls, less than two years old, all rooms have falls view.

Weather in Toronto that weekend is likely to be brisk; there may or may not be snow, and temperatures will probably be a several degrees above freezing in the day and hovering around freezing at night, if I recall correctly from the last time I was there in November.

If you head towards Niagara Falls, temperatures will likely improve; lately it hasn't gotten cold enough to make icewine until late December or even January.

At Niagara Falls, we stayed at the Marriott and the view from our room was truly amazing.

We had a fireplace and chairs by the window to sit and watch the falls at night. Very Romantic, but I was with a co-worker. They also had a chair lift contraption that took you straight down from the hotel to the Falls.

I believe Joe and I will be going back in October as he has never been and the leaves are so beautiful then.

Thanks Punki and Islandcub, I'm going to try and make reservations now for the Marriott, and a fireplace in room sounds great w/temperatures around freezing.

Islandcub- If there does happen to be snow at that time are there any ski resorts in the area? If so which one(s) is best?
This is our first trip to Canada and I wouldn't want to miss a thing!
BTW how do you make icewine? sounds very good

Just a point of info--you may know this already, but--Niagara Falls is about a 1 1/4
hours' drive from Toronto via the Gardiner Expressway to the Queen Elizabeth Way, west to Hamilton, then south to Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Have a good trip, visit the nearby Casino Niagara for some additional fun--about two blocks from the hotel.
Weather in November will be quite cool, may even see some snow, not always, but it has happened, so bring warm clothes. Temperature one night this week went down to about 45 degrees F, a little cool for this time of year up here.
