He, He. I booked cheap backload tickets on United to get OUTTA Sydney for most of that period! Sorry but I'll be in USA and Mexico Sept 17/27.

Sydney, Olympics, aah...
...Don't know if I would get out of King's Cross until the sun comes up
Wish I could come, but couldn't work a timeshare trade, none in SYD or close enough to be practical
If something changes, I'll send you a smoke signal.

I can believe that. Cruddy suburban houses are being offered for rent at $4 billion or whatever a day. Hotels are about 4 x rack rate for rooms the rats passed over. Accom. will be NUTS to obtain sadly.

Tinkerbelle - Repeat that line to me when you are hot, and gridlocked in a 20 mile traffic jam on Parramatta Road for 3 hours any given afternoon, whilst I am on a 4 lane free flowing Interstate in Utah!
I'll watch the highlights on CNN!

tinkybelle,
Myself and my girlfriend will be travelling from probably rainy Juneau Alaska to hopefully sunnier and warmer Sydney to view the first week of the Olympics. We bought into a air/hotel/ground trans/event tickets package so not sure how much free time we will have there.
I have been looking forward to this ever since Sydney was awarded the games. With the cost, we will only be able to see Sydney and then 3 days in Melbourne, but it will probably just wet my appetite so I have to come back when there aren't mobs of people.

I am coming to Sydney for the Olympics and my honeymoon I arrive in OZ on the 21 of Sept but am heading to Gold coast first. I'll be in Sydney Sept 23 until the 26th then to Cairn and then back in Sydney on the 29th until October 1st. If other Flyertalkers are there I loved to try and get together.

$345 (which now dropped to $340, BTW
) fare (VKPEX1MC) requires origination in CNS. Open return is not allowed, and dates cannot be changed, so what kind of "coupon pulling" would let you go around those restrictions?
Besides everything else, this fare requires a minimum of 5 days stay, therefore it won't work for student's itinerary.

tinkybelle or ozstamps,
While in Sydney and Melbourne for my Olympics trip in September I will be doing all I can to not be the idiotic tourist. To help, I have read several travel books and visited many web sites to gather information on your cities/country. Any pearls of wisdom that either of you can pass on to me??? Words/gestures/phrases which might have a very different meaning to Australians that will get me laughed at/beat up/put in jail??
When tourists come to my hometown, Juneau, many get off the cruise ships and ask what elevation they are at. As you look over the edge of the dock at the ocean, the common answer is "How tall are you?" before you start laughing.
Thanks in advance.
