We were a small group tonight but had a nice chat about traveling. And only some of it was about MS

A meeting where participants primarily discuss Manufactured Spending.

Suggestion: Dinner get-togethers are MUCH more popular if they are NOT targeted to a specific group. Having to discuss "manufactured spending" sounds like a yawner. If I want to learn about "MS" I can simply read the forum here on FT.

Of course, I realize that some people may have MS "secrets" to share in person rather than online. OK, whatever.

I've been on FT a long time (13 years) and have attended dozens upon dozens of FT events, both in the US and abroad. None of them have ever been focused on/limited to a specific subject.
As someone who has been on FT for 12 years I have no problem with there being MS Dos. They're Dos regarding a topic that is of interest to FTers, as evidenced by the popularity of the MS forum. And like other Dos probably a lot of information gets shared in person/friendships & camaraderie built.

Some people prefer smaller Dos so will never attend a larger Mega-Do. Some people prefer to go to foreign countries for Dos; others prefer domestic Dos. Some prefer meal Dos only. Others prefer organized weekend Dos. Some prefer attending Seminar Dos. Everyone is different. There is no right or wrong. The only FT rule is that Dos have to be open to all FTers to be posted in CommunityBuzz.

If you're not interested in attending a MS Do, then don't go. But no need to be snarky to those who are interested. If you are interested in organizing a Do where more generic travel topics or frequent flyer programs are discussed, then go ahead & set one up & post it in a new thread.

To the others who are interested in attending MS Dos, my recommendation is if you're going to organize one, you might want to put out some suggested dates for October, November, December (someone can update the wiki if you're not wiki-enabled) & potential locations. That makes it easier for those who are also interested to check their calendars or put the dates on their calendars. While sometimes a day or two notice is ok, most of the time it requires a bit more.

Cheers.

I'm relocating to SF in November. I'll be living in SSF, and working downtown, and would be up for attending future meetups! SF probably would be best during the week, but weekends could be anywhere.

I might be a few minutes late... trying to get Caltrain in from Sunnyvale but arrives at SF at 7:04pm. Hopefully this isn't an issue.

I'm more interested in a fri night bar thing. Maybe a sat brunch?

I'm kind of partial to doing a place like Waterbar. Beautiful view of the Bay Bridge and $1 oysters.

Definitely interested in a December meet.

I'd prefer South Bay for either a Fri. night bar thing or a brunch.
