Really nice dinner last night; great food and wine (Turkish white was a hit on our side of the table) and excellent company. Thanks for hosting yet another stellar stop around the globe, thewayofthefuture !

Sooooo if we all want to get together for dinner that week? Sunday or Monday would probably be best. I'd love to see where thewayofthefuture might lead us. Let's try to make lemonade out of lemons! Also FFS who summons remote team members the week adjacent to a holiday weekend?

Unfortunately I am out of the country all that week, otherwise I would have loved to plan a dinner - don't let me hold the rest of you back from getting together though! And I'm always happy to provide recommendations if you know what you might be in the mood for :)

I'm always keen to try new thai/indian places, and have underexplored the Jackson heights area. Plus it's very easy to get to from Manhattan. So send the recs my way!

Some people know how to pull my arm :o I have a few favorites in Jackson Heights. We can discuss and plan something offline. My two favorite Tibetan and Nepali restaurants in North America are within two blocks of the subway station.

There's a Nepalese place called Himalayan Yak where we went for Bhutanese food years ago. It's hard to go wrong in that neighborhood though - just follow your nose :D

That's one of my two favorites :)

The Tibetan place is Phayul (which is better than the Phayul 2 location across the street IMHO, though they are also very good).

Thanks again, thewayofthefuture! This was only my third “aroundtheworld” dinner but I certainly hope to attend more! :)

We went to the Queens Night Market this evening and I immediately thought of this thread. There were over 65 vendors from 30 - 40 countries. Highly recommended for this crowd. Arrive early!

There were 5 of us and we had food from Brazil, Cambodia, Korea, Mexico, Poland, Singapore, Tibet, and Vietnam. No plate is over $6 so plates are small. it's like international tapas. It's also less "swish" than Smorgesburg, and we liked that.

I was there the first night they were open and while it was fun, none of the vendors especially blew me away. Also if you weren't there in the first hour, you could find yourself waiting 20+ minutes in line for a single vendor. The only consistently-quick line was for the liquor tent. We also met NYC Mayor Adams.

Bolding mine.
One of the few Flyertalk threads that contain a tidbit of informative information. Thank you.
The last tidbit was in the late 2000's when Magic111 (RIP) told me that AA let you book a 3 leg domestic award ticket (now dead).

#58 - Germany

Short notice on this one, but our 58th meal (Germany) will be tomorrow night (Thursday 10/19) and we have 1 seat still available, with the regular crowd having claimed the others before i had a chance to post here.

Reservation is at 7:30 at Heidelberg on the Upper East Side, an institution in the neighborhood.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/iywjdV3bUB9adUpB7?g_st=ic

anyone want to claim the last seat?

Long Train Runnin Oct 30, 2023 5:09 pm

Can I request to be added to the "regular" crowd list?

I am working in Midtown these days, so would like to try and attend in the future.
