Boston Do: May 22. Spring may be back!

Edited to add on 5/22/13 regarding time and weather: See link here.

Introducing the "the-weather-will-get-warm-eventually" Do for Boston, on May 22. Our last Do was an enormous success, raising over $400 toward spending on my credit card. This year, I hope to exceed that goal.

For the location, I'm going to select Kinsale for dinner again. They seem to be able to handle a crowd our size and we can hopefully get the outdoor patio. Obviously, we're open to suggestions at this point.

Added bonus: The first person to sign up below for this Do will officially be listed in the OP as the first person to sign up! How exciting.

Mike

ETA, 5/7/13: I have received a number of questions asking me about who pays for what and how.

In the past, we have always done it on the honor system. You keep track of what you owe, add in tax and tip (which is usually included in the bill due to the group size) and pay one person, who puts it on their credit card and earns the points. That person is usually the Do organizer, in this case, me, but I'm happy to pass the responsibility to someone else if they want/need the points or get a big bonus at restaurants.

The last time we did the Do, we were literally within a dollar of what the total should have been. That's how it should work. But I have no idea if everyone pays what they owe or if some made up for others.

So the most I can ask is to keep an eye on your order and try to pay the right amount. I've never ended up with extra at one of these things but, in the case that it happens, all extra proceeds will be donated to The One Fund Boston.

Ambraciot Apr 22, 2013 10:20 am

Unfortunately, I have a prior commitment for the 22nd, but you guys and FT will definitely be on my mind as I prep for my 5/23-5/27 trip to DOH.

Please put me in the maybe column.

I was going to leave town that morning but haven't
bought my ticket yet. I presume this is a post-work
get-together?

We usually start it around 6ish. But the Boston crowd is such a casual one that no one will really know what time it is.

You can move me to confirmed. I though that was when i arrived for a previous one but wasnt sure.

*Edit* Ill bring cash so someone can earn the points. My debit card earns a crappy 1 point per 2 dollars which equates to almost nothing when you have a ton of miles as it is

The Kinsale layout works great for these events, if it's nice enough to be outside, which I'm sure it will be in a month; it's ideal for this sort of thing. I recommend calling them and telling them we'll be a group for lots of drinks and dinners, we don't really know how many we'll be, but probably 15--25 (too optimistic?) and could we please have that side area outside? That area can expand or contract depending on the group size.

Should be fun!

Marathon Man Apr 23, 2013 8:30 pm

As long as we dont waste the taxpayers dollar

Done! And I'll take the spend, although the CC may have shut me down by then.

Great choice of dates! It's literally the first week I'll be in town since mid-March. Boy are my arms tired!!

Not gonna lie, though, and I'm sure I'm in the minority here, the Kinsale is not my favorite.

Once upon a time we had a good meet at the Cambridge Brewing Company; equally as accessible, same outdoor seating scenario, they brew their own beer, have pretty good food and are not a chain restaurant. JMHO and just tossing it out there...

Firewind Apr 26, 2013 8:49 am

^ Thanks, Mike.

You hardcore five spent $80 apiece at the last one? I'm $60 sorrier that I couldn't attend...

Is the Cambridge Brewing Co. in Boston? Most everyone walked to the one last year, as I recall. ...And some were even walking afterward. :D

Quite. As would be just about any at this point. All things considered. Boston Strong.

I've actually gotten pretty good reviews on Kinsale, but I appreciate the feedback. Kendall Square is a little tougher for most people to get to than downtown, but I think it's worth considering. You've got PM.

Sorry, I meant the last big one in the fall. For this one, I'd host it at the most expensive restaurant I could find if I felt confident that we could get a large group.

Shall I put you in for this one?

Mike

Firewind Apr 26, 2013 10:23 am

I'm in. Sorry to be cryptic.

Mike

Kendall Square would be great for me, just as one (anytime you want to hold this anywhere north of Boston, however slight, is great for me :D).

CDKing Apr 26, 2013 7:36 pm

I prefer somewhere close to Copley Square. Just to give the area some support. Either way ill make it to which ever part of town is decided on.

oneeyejack Apr 29, 2013 7:56 am

Wish I could join you guys but I'll be on the other side of the planet! =)
