Actually, if you figure in that I completely stiffed you, you'll be up by $30 when I clear up the Google Wallet thing.

Questions in post 145 -

1. I work in Cambridge so it's easier for me but really I have no preference between downtown Boston and Cambridge

2. Neither area would stop me from making the DO as long as I'm free

3. I think that the Kinsale patio would be great for the DO. I think there's sufficient space and in the summer it's a great spot!

As of now July 22nd works with my schedule!

Don't worry, your $30 had already been included, since I know where to find you. Actually, on second thought...

;)

Michael, thank you organizing Wednesday evening. It was a great time with a lot more people than the first one I attended. I didn't get a chance to speak with everyone, but maybe at the next DO. I thought they were only held once a year so I am very excited to see you are thinking about one in July. I think the only reason I found out about this one was because someone, maybe Firewind, had it listed in his signature area of his normal posts. I don't normally look in Community Buzz as there are so many forums I can't keep up with.
1) Prefer Boston
2) Would go to Cambridge, but would probably be later to the gathering. I drive in but thinking of the people that take the T how about something by Alewife Station? Jasper White's Summer Shack is there and a Bertucci's.
3) Kinsale is fine with me.
Of course, I think we should have a DO at a hotel lounge/restaurant...for hotel points and double miles!>>>http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...ilies/wink.gif

Hi- I'm a newbie and was unable to make it to this one. I'm glad you are thinking of one in July! I look forward to meeting you all. Kinsale seems to work so no reason not to keep going there; however, Cambridge is good too!

I'd actually consider that, although the prices would certainly be higher. Option #2 would be to rent a suite at a hotel and bring our own food (or run up a ridiculous room service bill). A little tacky to bring our own food, but, well, ya know...
#3 If you guys want to schlepp out to Brookline, we're happy to host an event at our house.

But at this point, I have received far more indications of interest for Kinsale than Cambridge. Or Brookline.

What if we like rented one of those boston trollies or a duck tour boat and had a sort of rolling rally do where it travels to rite aid, cvs and walmarts?!

Id totally pitch in $ and help to get that going!

I'd like to echo all that Mike says, and, if I may, point out that I was ther person who originally suggested the Kinsale as our meeting spot for our DOs, so I will absorb the blame on that. I used to work in the building across the street, and I ran the internship program, so we would debrief on Friday afternoons in "conference room K"; interns are college students after all.

Nobody thinks that the Kinsale is the nicest place on earth, but it is centrally located; it has decent prices (beers are at least a dollar cheaper than Faneuil Hall); and, they accommodate our group, which, frankly can be unpredictable of size. Will we be five people? Will we be 45? The more the merrier, but we need a restaurant that will be flexible with us.

Of course, the DO location is precisely where the DO organizer sets it up. Mike and I chose the Kinsale. If someone wants to set up a DO elsewhere, then so be it!

I live in beautiful PAWtucket, RI, and I need to catch the T from South Station, so I'm disinclined to attend an event way the heck in Cambridge. But, that shouldn't discourage local cambridgians from meeting up! This week I've met up with five peeps for lunch whom I've met through the DOs. We met up in downtown Boston; if you're out in the hinterlands of Cambridge or Pawtucket or wherever, step up!

Now, I have questions for you:

It has been suggested to do a Do in Kendall Square. I'd like to do what's best for all involved, so please answer the following questions. If you don't want to answer below, you can PM me.

1) Do you have a preference of downtown Boston or Cambridge (or something else)?
2) Would either of those locations prevent you from coming to a Do, i.e., if it's held in Boston, would that stop you from coming, or if it's held in Cambridge, would that stop you from coming?
3) Assuming it's not 50 degrees in July, do you have any reason to believe that the Kinsale patio would not suit our needs?

If you want to remain anonymous (to everyone but me), feel free to PM me and I'll aggregate results.

Talking to people last night, there did seem to be a preference for remaining downtown, but again, we want to maximize the fun for all.

Potential date thrown out for the July Do is Monday, July 22.

Mike

I like the Kinsale for the same reasons Tim points out (and there's a CVS near it and often some street parking can be had nearby).

Frankly, Tim, it is one of the only things left in life you and I agree on too! :D:D:D

I prefer Cambridge (Harvard Square is closer to me) but could come to Boston and Kendall Square work.
Neither location would prevent me.
Don't know the Kinsale patio.

Maybe it would be fun to do Boston Harbour cruise DO in mid to late August? There's a promo on travelzoo for $10 Thursday evening cruises. I've not bought one, but if I understand correctly, one needs to commit to a specific date at the time of purchase. It sails 5:30 to 7:30. Any interest?

See http://www.travelzoo.com/local-deals..._deal%3a56057s the promo runs another 5 days from now, so by the end of Thursday local time.

I'd be inclined to commit to 8/15 or later.

now the cruise idea IS a good one... But my experience in having rented those many many many times with large groups in the past (had a small events planning co once) is that they charge wayyyyyyy too much for booze and there are limits on what and when they sell anyway. Food is bad too and the event itself has a cost that everyone would have to foot part of. I would hate to have to spend more money on miles learning and earning.

As well, July 22 may be the best time for me and for others, and a guy you know may be flying into town who wants to meet you anyway.

Oh, July 22 is fine -- I'm not suggesting this cruise as a replacement for July 22; just, perhaps, another event. I'd imagine the frugal among us (including me) might have to smuggle in some airplane nips to avoid the no-competition monopoly on board the boat. Maybe we buy some sodas, or maybe I bring a backpack full of ice cold Fresca. :-D

I've lived 'round here 13 years, and I don't think I've ever done a harbour cruise here. I have zero experience with this locally. For ten bucks, I'd give it a try!

Who might be coming to the July DO? Someone from the Carolinas?

PS -- as an aside, there are lots of entertaining YouTube vids about how to smuggle alcohol onto cruise ships, the weeklong variety. I'm not all that into the schemes, but they're fun to demonstrate that American ingenuity is still going strong!! Some are pretty impressive!

Marathon Man Jun 15, 2013 7:23 pm

yup
he may come!
