You would be surprised at how much weight they can gain and how quickly.

My son was not a premmie, but he was born too small to allow him to have his circumcision when he was 8 days old, as is traditional by Jewish law.

We waited an extra week, he was fine, and about a month later we were warned by our pediatrician that we have to cut back on his feeding because, "You see a cute, chubby, baby -- but as a professional I see a future obese child."

My son, incidentally, is now 32, stands over 6', is not only in excellent physical condition without an inch of fat but is also a professional physical fitness instructor.

Plus, being your son already stacked the odds against him. However...

...it appears he managed overcome your genetics. Good for him! May I assume, too, that he has movie star hair?

Can't believe I missed this last month. Congrats on the new addition to your family. I hope she is thriving & continues to do so. And remember that friends really do want to help, but may not know how... ask for what you need - and don't feel guilty for being specific.

Best of luck on the interview!

So far, so good. So good, in fact, that I've been neglecting this thread. We're still hopeful for a March discharge.

Hoya, (I have not read the whole thread), but as a mother of a once premie, I can tell you, as long as the issue was with your wife, your baby will be ok. Mine was. Neonatal is great, just make sure that her eyes are always covered, they didn't when my son was there, I think now they do. All the light hurts their eyes.

Good luck, she will be ok, mine did.

My little one came @ 32 weeks (at 3lbs, 11oz. then dropping to 3,4oz) just about 22 months ago. After 3 weeks and 6 days in the NICU he came home with us.

Now, he torments the cat, won't eat from a high chair, and "no" is his favorite word...

Thank you all so much. Hope is a dangerous thing in a situation like this but I'm allowing myself to feel it anyway.

Effective one hour ago, my little one is home.

Thank you all so much for your support and well-wishes. The global community represented here is why I keep checking FT daily, even 8+ years after joining.

I'm so happy for you. And now your little one will grow in leaps and bounds. In a few months, it will be shocking to you to look at her and remember how much worry she caused during her first weeks of life.
