Unfortunately, I likely can't make it on the 9th unless a work event I have that evening gets rescheduled. I'll have to catch the next one. Thanks for welcoming a newbie.
I have been to Ambar on Barracks Row, albeit for brunch and not happy hour. Their food concept is generally small plates, I think, and I remember everything being pretty good (although a lot of dishes at brunch were seasoned similarly with roasted red pepper sauce).
Near Union Station, you could also look at The Dubliner (relatively low key Irish pub) or, on that near end of H Street, The Big Board (a riff on the stock market bar in Barcelona - good burgers) or Driftwood Kitchen (new, haven't been, but heard good things).
Have fun, hope to make it next time!

Given mhnadel's statement that Ted's Bulletin would probably work for a group like ours -- and from the photo on their website, she's definitely right -- let's go there. Would 6:00 pm for drinks and 6:30 pm for dinner work?

Hey gvdIAD and others:
I'd like to attend as well. Never been to a DC Flyertalk meet-up but I did go to the first Advanced FTU in Chicago a few months ago.
Let me know if there's a reservation under any specific name at Ted's Bulletin.
Thanks.

Welcome aboard, lhs323 and kurenaiyume! New attendees are always welcome.
I don't believe Ted's Bulletin takes reservations for dinner (a look at Open Table showed no reservations after 5:45 pm for several random dates in the next two weeks), and with numbers like ours that always fluctuate, that's probably for the best.
I'll try to remember to bring a FlyerTalk tag, but if I don'tb just eavesdrop on conversations 'til you hear people complaining about their upgrades not clearing or the relative quality of the *A lounges at LHR or the Pier vs. the Wing Lounge at HKG.
See everyone tomorrow!

I can try to bring along my incredibly conspicuous and silly Alaska Airlines hat.

Hi there,
I just signed up for Flyer Talk, and I'm kinda new to this whole mileage run/extreme travel thing.
I also went to FTU this past weekend and learned a lot.
I'm in and hope to meet some new cool peeps!
Cheers,
S

Please add me to the Wiki as attending tomorrow evening. I have a conference call at 5pm but will head over after. Glad new attendees are welcome and looking forward to meeting everyone. Also interested in whether an FTU advanced is worth it -- so excited to hear from anyone who was there this past weekend.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. I was at FTU Advanced this weekend, so I'd be happy to share my thoughts.
