Bluejacket is a 6-min walk from the Navy Yard/Ballpark metro.
Something right by the Mt Vernon Square metro with a different, but equally fun vibe is Unconventional Diner. They are also able to take group reservations online.
I had the pleasure of meeting them many years ago (friends of friends) wonderful people!

Assuming I make it, I was planning on booking the Courtyard near the Mt Vernon Square-Convention Center Metro station - but I am still flexible on this and will hold off until a decision is finalized.

OK - for Tuesday night (12/16/25), notes on walking times and distances for different places:
I'll still be available on Monday evening (12/15/25) if anyone can't make Tuesday.
David
- The places I suggested (Aslin Beer (https://maps.app.goo.gl/REpbi8fv2adrEF9w6) and Cork Wine Bar (https://maps.app.goo.gl/EYX44UqiEvdXbMkx5 - corrected link) and Chicken and Whiskey (https://maps.app.goo.gl/k9kPPPDXyoW5wKPw7)) are all 7 minutes/0.3 mile/3 linear blocks from U Street/African-Amer Civil War Memorial/Cardozo Metro Station and within a few feet of each other at the 14th St NW/S St NW intersection.
- Unconventional Diner (https://maps.app.goo.gl/1N5CYwTrA95mHPnM6) is 0.1 mile/1 linear block from both the CY and Mt Vernon Sq 7th St-Convention Center Metro Station.
- City Tap House is 5 minutes/0.2 mile/2 linear blocks from Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro Station and 6 minutes/0.3 mile/3 linear blocks from the CY.
- Note that it's 8 minutes/0.4 mile/4 linear blocks between City Tap House and Unconventional Diner if folks want to brave the cold
- And, as noted by ZenFlyer , Bluejacket is 6 minutes/0.3 mile/3 linear blocks from Navy Yard-Ballpark Metro Station.
I'll still be available on Monday evening (12/15/25) if anyone can't make Tuesday.

Hey David: do you know if there is ample indoor seating at Aslin? I thought it was just a couple of tables inside but I could be wrong.
A couple of other brew pubs I found near Mt, Vernon Square (and the metro) are:
Prost
Present Company Pub House

You can't measure walking times in DC based just on distance. The U Street area tends to be packed with people.
The Navy Yard area is probably better, but best to make sure there are no events going on there that night.
The stuff around Mount Vernon Square is at least walkable from Metro Center, which makes it much easier for those of us who live in civilization (i.e. to the west.)

Regarding potential crowds in the Navy Yard/Ballpark area, there are no ballpark events on the 16th. (The stadium is currently set up for Winter Wonderland activities that take place primarily on the weekends, and for better or worse, not the 16th. https://www.mlb.com/nationals/tickets/events)
I see about 8 people who have expressed quasi-firm interest in attending on the 16th. Putting aside differing views on the center of civilization in the DC area (ahem), and with much appreciation for DELees research, Im going to put a motion on the table in favor of Bluejacket. It is a few stops away on the green line from where our out-of-town members will (likely) be based. As a local brew pub it falls within the spirit of some of DELees original recommendations, and has been endorsed by a couple of members who have visited. And it appears it could accommodate a group of 8+ more easily than some of the other venues that have been mentioned.
That said, I remain completely open to other venues; Im just trying to wrap up this discussion so we can all get on with our weekend plans
. May I suggest that interested parties chime in, either agreeing to Bluejacket or putting forward a different preferred venue?
(I note that Chicken & Whiskey has a second location in Navy Yard, just a few minutes walk from Bluejacket, but I cant get a good handle on the seating arrangements there, and they dont take online reservations. It has more of a corporate fast-food vibe than the 14th street location. Depending on what time this group likes to convene, one possibility would be to meet for drinks (and apps) at Bluejacket, after which those who wish can repair to C+W for Peruvian food).

Bluejacket works for me. Beer selection looks stellar!
In this case, there is (once again) a Courtyard and a Residence Inn both a block from the Navy Yard-Ballpark metro station, so I'll plan for one of those. And it looks like a pretty easy ride (with a quick transfer) to/from DCA.
Now I have to decide if I want to fly or take the bus

Honing in on BLUEJACKET, Tuesday December 16 -- time TBD (6:00 p.m.?)
Without knowing what timezone DELee is in, but for the sake of moving the discussion forward, it looks like we have a consensus for Bluejacket Brewery, near the Navy Yard/Ballpark Metro stop (Green Line), 300 Tingey Street SE, on Tuesday September 16. The floor remains open for alternative suggestions, but as the saying goes, speak now or forever hold your peace!
In the meantime, the next issue to determine is time. I'm throwing out 6:00 pm as a starting point, but defer to others if there is a preference for earlier or later -- personally, I am entirely flexible.
To date, I've seen the following members express some degree of interest in attending:
DELee
GW McClintock
Zorak
Long Train Runnin
IAD_flyer
mhnadel
ZenFlyer
DCA Writer
pointnfly
Based on that survey, I'll volunteer to reserve a table for 10. We can contract or expand as necessary. If you know your plans and haven't already chimed in, it would be helpful to drop a line here, but no one should feel obligated to RSVP. All drop-ins and fence-sitters are welcome, including any last-minute out of town visitors.
For those planning to attend on the 16th -- whether Bluejacket or a different venue to be proposed -- please indicate your preferred starting time, so we can firm that up as well.

is fine with me as well. I am planning to arrive midday and have tentatively booked the Residence Inn. Now to find my SmarTrip card!
