Does it make any difference how one gets to Dallas and/or how one gets home from LAX and/or where one stays overnight in Dallas and/or Seattle and/or LA? Is there any expectation of flying on OW to/from this event or staying at participating hotels (ie stay with friends or family instead)?

Will tickets for the charter flights (DFW-BFI-LAX) be available as award tickets rather than paid tickets?
You book your positioning flights on your own. There is no rule that states you must use OW carriers, but it's a good way to show appreciation.

There is no rule which states that you must stay at the Do hotels. However, not only is it a good way to show appreciation, it's highly advisable for convenience. Then again, if you live in one of the positioning cities close to one of the Do hotels, you may find it more convenient to sleep in your own bed.

You cannot redeem miles for award travel on the charter flights.

Can you pay with AA gift cards? Please say, "yes!"

Believe Randy was talking about the $$ they pay AA. Registration is all online, so there shouldn't be a problem with using a CC for individual pax.

You can pay with credit cards and Paypal. Remember, AA doesn't run the charter, the organizers charter the plane and get a big fat bill for more than 130K in the mail.

And I can't BELIEVE we're not allowed to pay AA with a credit card for the charter

Oh, and I'll be posting a thread in CommunityBuzz as soon as all the legal stuff is taken care of

Hello Tommy,

First and most importantly, THANK YOU for all the time and energy youre obviously putting into this. Thanks also for putting up with questions (such as mine below) that are silly to some people.

Im really psyched for this. I expect to achieve LT Plat with AA within the next month and looking forward to saying goodbye to UA (and the MRs Ive been doing to maintain status). And as Cessna pilot/owner I like almost anything related to planes and flying. I also attend an annual conference at Park City Utah each year at the time of the OWMegaDO so Ive been sweating the exact dates. Worked out perfectly as Ill need to be in Park City starting on Sunday afternoon, January 29.

So, more silly newbie questions:

- As per the website, a release will be required but there is little other information about that release. Am I missing additional information about the release? If not, will it be something that can be signed on-line or will hard copy be required? If hard copy, will it be required ahead of time or at the start of the event?

- You previously wrote The Mega DO is not open for sale till October 9th. From what I can determine, registration is not yet open. Again, have I missed something? If not, will registration availability be announced on this thread? On the website?

- I havent found anything regarding hotel room group rates/blocks. Once again, have I missed something?

- Are you able to offer any thoughts as to how quickly this event and plane will fill? Do you think it might happen during the 24 hours exclusive advance registration period for launch party attendees? Think it will happen within a few hours of registration being opened to all? Im just wondering if Ill miss out it if I cant register with a few hours of registration opening.

Thank you again!

I'm not tommy, but I've been on 2 *MegaDos so can probably help w/ some of the answers.

1. The release is (IIRC) along the lines of you won't sue the organizers if something bad happens; typical indemnity stuff. Not a biggie. I think we did it via hard-copy at the start, but they might have changed it to online. You'll be notified when you have to do it.

2. There's 'real-time' & 'MegaDo time'. Love tommy & the organizers, but AFAIK registration or payment has NEVER opened when they first project it to do so. Don't worry - they'll get to it & you'll find out, especially if you follow the thread/links/sign up for update (if they have the last).

3. Hotel/room blocks I don't think usually opens at the same time as the charter, but right now I'd say no you haven't missed anything.

4. Based on prior years the entire plane does not fill within 24 hours, but there is a rush at the beginning & some classes such as F or 'tommy class' fill sooner rather than later. But if you don't sign up within the first 24 hours you'll be ok.

Hope that helps. Have a good time!

Cheers.

Too bad you can't book $130K of regular tickets, and then apply the credit from those tickets to the charter..

I would not be surprised if the charter sold out within 24 hours of general registration opening up. In addition to the head start which the launch party attendees will have, 3 years of Star Mega Do's has created a pent-up demand from oneworld Do hopefuls. In addition, you have the Star Mega Do junkies who will want to get in on the action, even though they will not be earning any *A miles. And when you toss in the new Mileage Plus program which has been raped and pillaged at the 25K and 50K levels, and the disgruntled UA/CO lower- and mid-level elites who want to see what AA has to offer........it would not surprise me in the slightest if this Do sold out within MINUTES of general registration opening up.

I suggest that those of you who are still trying to work out your own personal scheduling and financial logistics use the remaining time between now and when registration opens up to figure out how to shift credit card and bank balances around, etc., or you may miss out altogether.

maybe my math is off, but if every single person at the launch booked a seat in the first hour, it would not fill a 757 even accounting for the open middle seats in Tommy Class

so I think the dr will be fine

Ive realized that as well intentioned as this post was, I may have slighted other people. My apologies if that occurred. I had been reviewing the DO website and the discussion at milepoint and then came back here and recalled seeing Tommys name and/or screen name everywhere.

In addition to expressing my appreciation to him, I should also have thanked ALL the others who have given so graciously of their time to reply to my and others newbie questions (sometimes for the umpteenth time)!

So, thanks again to Tommy and to SS255 and to Sharon and to FriendlySkies and to TrojanHorse and to everyone else who has helped.

Done! Conference and skiing in Park City 1/29-2/2, reservations made. Not sure if this a FT and/or DO faux pas, and of course some might criticize me for writing this here, but Ive already made reservations at each of the 3 Hyatt Regencies for the DO. Just waiting for registration to open so I can register and buy plane tickets.

Still really psyched!

I don't want to take credit where it's undeserved. I am not involved in Mega Do planning in any way (other than cheerleading, and providing what I hope is helpful information to newbies). It would be unfair to steal the thunder from those who truly put the Mega Do's together.

With that said, I would recommend not making any Do hotel reservations until after the room blocks with the reservation links get posted. There will most likely be a special rate for Mega Do'ers, the hotels will know who the Mega Do attendees are (so they know what rooms get the special amenities), and most importantly, the Mega Do gets credit for those rooms. If we don't prove to the hotel partners that we made it worth their while to host us, they may not be as anxious to extend a warm welcome at future Mega Do's.

It has never been a requirement thus far that you must book your Do hotels through the official booking links in order to participate in the Do, but it is highly recommended for these reasons (and it might have been a condition for Diamond status on Star Mega Do 3 -- can't remember).
