From what I heard from Tommy, the GRU flights are going to be daytime flights, NOT overnight flights. Sleeping will be done in a nice Park Hyatt bed. That being said, you really don't need the full lie-flat seats.

Ah come on, harden up now

Either you have to learn to sleep in any sort of seat some time, or sleep is for the SMD-weak!

I'm fairly sure I can make it to the SMD III. Very excited to see all of the details

If we have a still valid, five year visa in an old passport, can we still use that or must it be in the current passport?

It should still be valid -- just bring both passports.

I entered Brazil once in that mode. I just stapled the old and the new together - back page of new one to front page of old one. Check that the visa date is still readable - since they punch holes in the old passport.

On topic of other preparations, if we're going to Iguazu, you really should get a yellow fever vaccination if you don't have one already.

I thought it was a flyover, but either way, I hope the details are out May 6 so I can take care of any such need. It'll be challenging to get to my doctor while at work without taking time off as I put so much time off into travelling .

Yellow fever shots usually must be given in a specialized clinic - either a public health station or a travel medicine clinic, so check with your doctor to be sure that he/she has it before going there for the shot.

No. But one may want a yellow fever vaccination if we stop at Iguazu Falls (rather than just flyover) as a precautionary measure.

From the Brazilian Consulate (San Francisco) website re: Yellow Fever vaccination:

FAQ 16. I heard that I need a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate to enter Brazil. Is it true?

The International Immunization Certificate against yellow fever will only be required from international travelers coming from countries which pose a risk of international dissemination. Currently there are no countries posing such risk. (Please see FAQ 1402 at www.anvisa.gov.br). Nevertheless, yellow fever vaccination is recommended if applicant intends to visit one of the following regions in Brazil: Acre, Amap, Amazonas, Federal District, Gois, Maranho, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Par, Rondnia, Roraima, Tocantins.

Just to clarify -- Foz do Iguacu is in Parana State -- so it is not listed in the above list recommending yellow fever vaccination.

Where do we sign up for this event? Can we attend the LH portion and not the Brazil portion or is it all or nothing like last time?

Signup not available yet. Like last time, it's not an all or nothing deal (you don't get a prorated cost based on your attendance, but you're free to go to only some of the events as your calendar allows).

If you sign up for the charter, you can go to whatever (all, some, none) of the events. (where the charter fee covers all costs except those mentioned as extra - TATL flights, hotels, etc. But again, you need the charter fee to participate in whichever events you would like.) Or at least this is the current announced structure.

Glad I didn't miss the sign-up yet being swamped with work the last month or three!!!

I'm totally psyched for the 3rd mega-DO! It's going to have a bunch of firsts for me, and those just don't happen very often for me (outside of MegaDOs, very very rarely!)

Sign-up happening today? Any idea of time? I am attending a conference tonight and it'd be great to know when I am supposed to find a computer...
