Sign me up for the RanDo...it may be my only chance to finally meet you!

margarita girl Nov 12, 2010 7:59 pm

I'm also interested. Finally got to meet Randy in person at the Mega Do even though I feel like I've known him for years. ^

Timing: Let's do it in the new year (January?), since some/most of us have already got the miles needed to requalify for our elite programs this year. :)

Location: How about Vegas for a venue? Always tons of cheap rooms, and discount airfares. Weather should be OK even if not overly hot.

Thanks for your input Randy and may be I be so bold as to suggest a alternative to consider for a possible RandyDo in '11: a Memorial Day weekend Do and work a tie in to help support veterans charitable causes such as Hero Miles which I know you've support in the past as it's a matter close to the heart with a father who served his country for 30+years.

I understand you not wanting to put the spotlight on yourself but if we can use the event as a way to do some good for others would that provide a persuasive enough argument to let us borrow you for a weekend to say thanks for your contributions?

Now that The Boss himself has replied to this thread, I'll consider it legitimized enough to put my hat in the ring. :D (I'll ignore the aww-shucks part where he said he didn't need his own, personal DO :p)

Looking forward to seeing what develops!

I'll put my vote in for DEN/COS. Love that area!

Memorial Day should be out as there is already a Do planned for that weekend. While obviously whatever weekend chosen will not work for some, to choose a weekend that already has a large Do planned wouldn't be a considerate move IMO.

Not to mention the fact that Flyertalk is global. It's not just an American thing. That's why I thought it would be great for Randy to enjoy his miles and do a global good-bye 3 or 4 continent tour. But while that's what I would do, it may not be what Randy wants. It's his retirement, let him figure it out. He knows from all these posts how we feel.

May not be what he wants? He's reluctant to do even one event so somehow you're thinking he's gonna do pull a Mick Jagger and do a 3 or 4 continent farewell tour?

FWIW I was unaware of any larger Do's next Memorial Day and hadn't consulted the list before my previous post and was just trying to offer some suggestions I thought he might find interesting.

I like the coordinating with Randy to go to HOM

might be the easiest ...

noirpepper Nov 14, 2010 3:41 pm

I'll put my hat in the ring too, pls sign me up for the Randy-DO whenever/wherever :) it'll be an honor to be part of the celebrations.

I am definitely interested - had to miss a few DO's I planned to attend but will do my best to make it to this one.

If it's ok with Randy, then yes.

Jaimito Cartero Nov 16, 2010 10:37 am

If this does happen, I'd recommend having it at least 6 months out. Not that anyone is planning a DO around my travel schedule, but Feb, March and May would be best. May probably the most ideal.

tommy777 Nov 16, 2010 10:40 am

Not much left of 2010, but we are planning a huge event in NYC April 28th-31st. I would love to honor our dear friend some time one of those days.

The FT Awards are on the night of the 28th, all other nights are open

Cheers

tommy777, are you giving me a green light to run the BRT on the 29th or 30th? Are no other activities planned? If not, I'll announce a date for BRT 11.

Definitely interested...pending dates, location, etc. And BB, you should win a prize for being the best CLE promoter ever. :)

I could not but help noticing that the (Denver) Rockies are in town the last weekend in April/first weekend in May (April 29 - May 1)....Nothing like having some dogs with the RP-dog.

Hawaii??? From PIP to HIP: From Party in Paradise to Hang (it up) in Paradise.

I like this one since it seems so fitting.

+1! Our islands beckon Randy, hopefully.

GrizShel Nov 18, 2010 11:43 am

Add me in as interested, and I do like the idea of having it in the Colorado Springs area (haven't been there in ages, want to go back, and I hope to see the House of Miles). 6 months notice or more usually makes it a lot easier for me to work something like this into my schedule.

But Hawaii aint bad either - never seem tired of going to the islands.

Whenever-----Wherever

travelkid Nov 20, 2010 1:44 pm

I suggest February.

Easy access with AA, and lots of expiring eVips/SWUs. Adding the overseas members in such an event, I would think is good.

Then Im in^

not having given a proper response

A party with friends - good;
honoring Randy for his inspiration, generosity, and hard work - good;
earning miles and points - good;

I'm good with this, assuming the dates are good.

tcook052 Nov 30, 2010 8:49 am

Maybe OP should update the thread title to say Randy-DO 2011.

Always interested in spending leisure time with Randy et al, but until we have a date and a city committed, that's all I can say...that I'm interested.

Ditto for me. I'm hoping it works out with my schedule (which, unfortunately, is not completely under my control).

As to a city, Munich is always nice, and the Starkbierfest (Strong beer festival) in mid-March would be a great opportunty . . . .

Fredd Nov 30, 2010 8:16 pm

Mrs. Fredd and I are definitely interested. ^
