My first was supposed to be the SIN DO in January this year. I made it to the pub, but some Aussie swimming instructor wanted to talk with me, and take me to her favorite Thai place.

Guess I should go back to the DO next year then...

The first continuous DO's were the CatmanDo's back in the early days of Flyertalk. Somewhere in this forum is an (official) explanation. Bottom line, a DO is a gathering of 12 or more Flyertalkers.

Disclaimer: I'm good friends with Catman and Sweet Willie.

When was the first CatmanDO relative to the original Party in Paradise that Randy hosted in Hawaii? Also, did the CatmanDOs evolve into SoupDOs or are these different?

The PIP was in 1999.

The third CatmanDo was March 2001. The first BRT was earlier in the afternoon of that event. In those days, BRT was a half day affair.

CatmanDo's were given a rest until he decided to do a SoupDo on the Friday evening before BRT. I think SoupDo is up to 10?

My first was actually in my home, ahead of Dovster's 3rd FLL-PBI DO. I'm trying to remember who was there...Mikey1003 and Mrs. Mikey1003 (miss them! come back!!) OZstamps and Margo and MileageAddict (who I also haven't seen in a while). Unfortunately, the shuttle launch that night was scrubbed, but we enjoyed some great OZ bubbly nonetheless.

The next day at Dov's DO in Boca Raton, we all got to see the shuttle go up. Amazing how you could still see that sucker so clearly from 300 miles away.

That's also the night I met Cordelli. He was an instant friend as we had a lot in common. RIP

The shuttle take off that evening was the highlight of that, and just about every other DO that I attended.

I must have really been soused. It was my own Do and I don't remember seeing the shuttle launch at all. In fact, I thought watching the launch was the reason that folks went to tkey's place the night before.

The Russian do

My first Do was less than a year after I joined FT. I lurked a month or two and then starting to read everything. I didn't really fully think through the whole DO thing because, I remember driving up he the restaurant thinking what the..... Legal Alien and Sweet Willie hosted it and I got up early and hung in the lot for a bit. And yes, explaining you are looking for your group whom you don't know what a single one looks like is weird. The other weird thing was when one of my friends asked me to go to dinner that same evening and I had to explain to him that I was going to a restaurant I had never been to to meet people I had never met.

That was early June and I will be at the 3F one tomorrow in Munster after also making a Sox do in July. I also have the the Chicago seminars coming up and the Tampa FTU later this month

Now that I have typed all this out, and have read it aloud to check for typo's....I am starting to think I have an addiction.
