Looks more like a volcano to me. But whatever makes you feel like you're in Europe. :p :D

C'mon now, don't knock the time and thought I put into choosing icons. Actually, I think Marriott's the only one that matches brand color. For the life of me, I couldn't visualize the others' logos. Of course, it now comes to me Hilton should have been blue. Anywho...

I'm probably going to take the bus in based on adam's input, although I have PM'd him some additional questions.

I truly have no idea why, but I can handle planes/trains/subways; however, ALWAYS get confused w/ buses. I don't even take them in the U.S.

Cheers.

Book the shared shuttle. It's only ~US$15, or wait around for me and jswong.

jswong, we could share the CZK$550/US$33/NZD$40 private car transfer. Anyone else arriving ~11am want to share?

SkiAdcock Jun 7, 2011 7:32 am

Since I get in at 9am & will be tired, I'm going to head to the hotel rather than wait close to 2 hours to carpool into town. I'll see you all later in the aft.

Cheers.

A little more info on the AE bus and the alternative option to MArriott/Hilton Old Town:

When you walk out the front of the terminal, there is a bus stand after the taxi lanes. You want to find the bus stand for the AE bus (there are other buses that run to/from airport...I think the others are all numbered). You have to buy a ticket from the driver, and it will be 50Kc, so get cash in the terminal (hopefully a small bill). The bus should stop at all the stops, don't know about English but you wouldn't really talk to them anyway. There is probably at least a display, if not an audio recording of the stops.

It's real easy to figure out though...there are five stops total. The first two are at the airport, terminals 1 and 2. Then you drive for 15-20 minutes to a metro stop. Then, you drive for another 20 minutes or a few more, and that will be your stop, Masarykovo Nadrazi (Masaryk Station). So total time is 40 minutes. Yes, there is space for luggage.

It does run in a loop, so if you use it to return, you'll get on in the same place and direction you got off, go to the main train station, then on out to the metro stop and back to the airport. Beware though, it only runs every half hour. The schedule is on the bus stand.

So that is a special ticket/bus.

Regular public transport costs 26Kc, you buy your ticket from the kiosk or at the desk inside. Take bus 100 from the terminal to Zlicin metro station. Get on the metro to stop Namesti Republicky, and that's right next to the hotel as well.

Thanks for the link. That was very helpful - not the least part for which was acceptance of Amex :)

Thanks again for the detailed information. ^

The schedule is on the bus stand.
I've found the timetable for AE here. During the day it seems to leave T1 at 04 and 34 min past and T2 at 06 and 36 min past the hour.

I'll be arriving at 14:15 on LX1486 and planning to take bus 119 and metro to Florenc and to walk to the Hilton, as it seems quicker than other options. Or perhaps bus 100 and metro line B which does not involve a change might be better? However, if there's anyone arriving about the same time I'd be happy to consider other transport options.

Many years ago when I visited Prague I travelled extensively on the metro (admittedly with some friends) and found it very easy to navigate. I hope things haven't changed much since but have noted warnings about pickpockets on various websites.

P.S. On the other hand I've just looked at Prague Airport Transfers website and might settle for their shared shuttle transfer service.
P.P.S. Oh what the hell! I went to Prague Airport Transfers' booking site and 20.5 GBP (21 GBP including cc fee) didn't seem as bad as 550 CZK so I've booked private car transfer after all. :o

adventureadam Jun 7, 2011 11:28 am

I'd take the 100 to Zlicin and take the yellow to Florenc, but I'm cheap like that.

adventureadam, that was the routing my wife and I took 6 years ago. Good to see we did the right thing.

The company that I recommend is actually Prague Airport Shuttle.

By the way there is a very good gelato shop in taksim; heading north to the Hyatt on the left hand side.

If it is nearly as good as the pastry shop - will have to make this a definite stop!

On my way East now - at JFK in the RCC - short stop before heading to Terminal 1 and TK to IST. Arriving PRG Friday 10:45. Got you covered boxo!

Thanks for pm servus!

I'm sorry. My fault. So please, consinder both options. I used Prague Airport Transfers myself and they are absolutely reliable. This is what counts most for me. It may be, that they charge a few $ more but I'm the "safe guy" so any one of these both companies should be fine.

Berrenger Jun 7, 2011 12:15 pm

I booked the shuttle with Prague Airport Transfers. I'll get there Wednesday evening and explore on my own for a couple of days. Looking forward to it.

Dovster Jun 7, 2011 12:16 pm

I just sent an e-mail to Prague Airport Transfers asking the following:

1. If my flight lands at 4:20 pm, whet time will the shared shuttle leave and what time would they expect it to arrive at my hote (I gave them the name and address)l.

2. How much would it cost me?

3. I am flying MXP-MUC-PRG. What happens if my flight lands too late in Munich to make my Prague connection? Am I still charged for the reservation?

boxo Jun 7, 2011 12:44 pm

If you have transfer space available or want to hitch a ride, send me your flight number and arrival time by email [PM box is 96% full!] and I'll make a list here.
