If experience from other countries is any guide, the strike will last one day. If the unions do not get what they want they will hold further one-day strikes over the coming weeks before scheduling a long term one.


It was across the street from my hotel (the Galileo) and the price was, indeed, fair.

That being said, at last night's dinner one of our members ordered duck and was served twice as much as my restaurant had given us.

I very much hope the strike is on Monday and not later in the week -- especially not on Wednesday -- which is when I am flying out.

Crisis averted
 

Despite the courts declaring the Transport Union strike as illegal and threatening significant retribution if the union decides to go ahead with the strike, I invoked a Plan B today.

I'll be taking the EuroNight train from Prague at 1831h tomorrow (12/06/2011) which will arrive in Heidelberg at around ~0500h the next morning, followed by a connecting regional train to Frankfurt which arrives around ~0600h. After that, I'll have to burn some 8-9 hours in Frankfurt before my connecting train to Aachen leaves at 1517h.

All for the modest sum of EUR 25 (charged in Czech equivalent), which is the reservation fee for a sleeper on the EuroNight train.

Even though my original fare probably wasn't going to be affected, at least this option guarantees my getting to Aachen on time!

Greetings from the CSA Crystal Lounge at PRG. Finding Airport Express at the main railway station (or getting to the main railway station from Cafe Imperial for that matter) was not as straightforward as I thought. I know I should have consulted a map but thought I could just follow my nose. :o

A kind security guard outside a shop at the railway station escorted me all the way to the Airport Express bus stop which is two levels up and not at all obvious if approached from the centre or Masarykovo Nadrazi. Not sure if it's easier if you arrive by metro.

But once you are on the bus, it's quick and very straightforward and I can thoroughly recommend it.

Thanks to Servus for a fantastic weekend. Everything was perfect except for a few rain drops but that did not seem to slow anybody down. It was really a great weekend and enjoyed meeting new folks and chatting with old friends.

I think you are right, boxo. He was talking about having to buy a pair when we were in the square watching the clock chime. That may have been when he realized he left them.

Nice afternoon in PRG - we visited the Jewish Museum - wandered through the Old Jewish Cemetery where the oldest tombstone dates back to the year 1439! The Synagogues were stunning. Headed up towards New Town with the idea of finding an affordable (which translates as 'cheap') replacement suitcase. The kind salespeople at Marks and Spencer directed us down the street to a small shop - The Italy Shop. Anyhow, a suitabe replacement was had for about 800 czK or $48 - I can live with that.

Thinking of visiting Prague Castle in the morning... and the gardens across the River as well.
