Help...Denied AAdvantage MileUp Credit Card

Hi,
I was denied even though I have a 805 credit score and I am trying to contact AA in order to find out why. All the phone numbers don't let me through to talk to an actual person. Any suggestions would be appreciated regarding what to do next. -Greg

Call Citibank, not AA.

Yea, while this is an AA co-branded card getting approved has nothing to do with AA.

Call Citibank, ask over on the Citi forum here, or MyFico forum, etc.

When you are denied you get a letter explaining why

Just a couple of food for thought questions:
  • do you already have any other AA Citi cards? Multiple cards?
  • do you have any credit freezes or credit locks at the credit bureaus?

And
1. Has OP ever had issues with Citibank credit cards?
2. Has OP ever had issues with AA credit?
I have a friend who is able to get other Citi cards, but not AA branded. He said he had a bankrupcy using AA credit and the denial letter mentioned something about this AA credit
So, I suspect there is a difference between an AA branded Citi card and other citi cards

Curious on these points. An 805 should be clear for most card out there.

Or maybe he/she just doesn't really have an 805 credit score

Mine is in the 820s and just got denied....which is what brought me to this thread. I carry zero balances and no debt while making $110k per year. I was shocked at denial.

If your credit report shows no recent activity on any of your existing card accounts it is common for Citi to decline the application. The activity that they can see is accounts closing with a balance. It's fine if you then pay off the balance in full to avoid finance charges, but if you pay before the statement closes and they all report a zero balance Citi sees only dormant accounts.

I have all my cards set to autopay full balance upon payment due, the timing should be fine to where it counts....I would think. I also am pretty sure there is a balance at any given time, so when they pulled the report there was likely a balance on each card, even if small.
