Citi pulled both Equifax and Experian

Citi pulled both Equifax and Experian
I applied and got approved for Citi AA platinum card, but to my surprise they pulled both Equifax and Experian (I subscribe to both)! I have never had any CC pulled two credit reports at the same time. Is this the new norm?
